Have changed out the front tank fuel pump but the engine still stops running after a while

fit a breather to the inlet pipe of the tank.

Fuel lines could be blocked or even partially blocked or a simple fuse. Try blowing out your fuel lines with an air hose and see if that makes a difference

Fuel filter for sure 100% needs to be changed.Could losing pressure.Live alone fuel pump for now.

David Johnson is wrong about that. The Chevy HD dual tank has two sending units, one in each tank , one fuel pump, a fuel pump relay switch and a equalizing pump. If the truck stalls out at 1/2 tank, it is the equalizing pump. That pump, pumps fuel from the rear tank to the front. If the pump is out, the front tank empties, the truck shuts down, the guage reads half tank because the back tank is still full, but the equalizing pump won't pump the rear fuel tank load to the front. Hence the problem you listed above, not a sending unit.

To replace the fuel pump of Your car You will need these instruments (Handheld siphon pump, Jack, Jack stands, Tire blocks, Flat head screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, Socket-wrench set, Hammer, Brass punch) then please follow the steps below: It involves 3 steps and each step is

Relieve Fuel Pressure, Run the engine until it uses all of the remaining fuel and stops running., Remove the Fuel Pump.
To relieve fuel pressure:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
   
2. Remove the gas cap to relieve any pressure in the gas tank,
3. Disconnect the wiring for the fuel pump assembly that is located behind the fuel filter hose, if you have a model with port fuel injection. The fuel filter hose is near the fuel filter just in front of the back tire on the passenger's side.
4. Run the engine until it uses all of the remaining fuel and stops running.

Next step is for You to Remove the fuel tank, to remove the fuel tank,

1. Siphon gas out of your tank or use the fuel up if it is more than one-eighth full. Use a siphon pump to siphon fuel out of your vehicle. Insert one hose end in to the gas tank and the other in to a fuel-safe container. Pump the fuel out of the tank into the container.
2. age the emergency brake and block the front wheels. Raise the back of your vehicle up with a jack and place it on jack stands. Remove the jack.
3. Disconnect the wiring for the fuel pump assembly if you have not already done so. Disconnect the vapor return hose, the filler neck, and the vent tubes. Disconnect the fuel feed hose, and the fuel-return hose as well.
4. Support the fuel tank with the jack and remove both restraining straps. Lower the tank until you can access the wires and remove the ground strap and the wire.
5. Lower the fuel tank to the ground and bring it out from under your car.

Then finally take out the fuel pump by:

1. Using a punch and hammer, gently tap the inner ring counter clockwise until the inner cams are free,
2. Pull the fuel pump out of the tank. Make sure not to bump it on anything because the fuel level float and the fuel sending unit are delicate and even a small bump will render the readings inaccurate.
3. Check the o-ring on top of the fuel pump and the filter on the bottom of it. If the o-ring is cracked or dry, replace it. If the filter cannot be cleaned, it must be replaced.
4. Then You reverse the process to reassemble the car back.

you either need fuel filter replacement or fuel pump. filter should be under the passanger rear in front of rear tire on frame rail, fuel pump is in the gas tank the tank needs to be removed for replacement i would try the filter first there only about 20 or 30 dollars and pretty simple to change

It sounds like an air leak in the **** side of the pump, it can cope with some air when running without any misfire, the fuel will run back to the tank after time and need re priming. Has anything been changed in the fuel system lately?

the problem is the fuel pump inside the front tank is defective, it is not a fuel filter, the fuel from both tanks fuel pumps runs through the same filter

There is no selector valve on a 1995 ford f150 300 engine. The selector switch on the dash sends power to the pump in the selected tank. The pump then sends fuel to the engine. If engine won't run on the selected switch, the pump in that tank needs replaced.

Mine did that to me about 4 months ago. I started by changing the fuel filter it ran great for a month. but by doing that it released all the pressure off of the fuel pump which then went out. If you run your vehicle below 1/4 tank it starves the fuel pump. The pump needs that fuel because; The fuel is the lubrication for the pump. Running your tank down consistently over a period of time will short the pump out faster.
