If the CD code isn't above your CD inside the CD box but if you are sure it is on the manual, you'll need to look for your manual. A CD key is unique (different) for every CD, so it cannot be shared (except unvalid keys, but still you wouldn't be able to play then). You need that CD key to start, so OR you'd find the manual or see where the CD key is, or you'd have to buy a new one. I do not think there is another option.

It's a bug in the game, try starting a new game, it should fix it.

. put your sims 2 cd into the computer
2. go into COMPUTER and the sims 2 will be there.
3. DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON IT.
4. click the sims 2 file with teh RIGHT BUTTON on your mouse.
5. click "OPEN"
6. another file will apear.
7. NOW can you see a file that says "CRACK" click on that file and open it.
8. another file will apear and it will have a folder in it. doesnt matter what it is open THAT folder.
9. for me their are 2 folders one that says sim 2 and the other "SERIAL NUMBER"
10. open the file that says "SERIAL NUMBER"
11. another file will pop out and that file should have your SIMS 2 SERIAL NUMBER aka KEY-GEN

Ha, I kept searching and I found out that it just wants the newest expansion of The Sims 2...so if you have Pets, and install Open for Business - then insert the Pets cd, and run Pets - and it should have Open for Business as well.

Another solution was to uninstall Pets (or whatever version you have) and install Open for Business, and then reinstall Pets (or whatever)...this will lose all your saved sims and houses but I'm guessing it's better than nothing.

You need to start the latest version the older one won't start the game. In this case you need to start the game with the Sims2 Kitchen and Bath SP starter file.
