Im on 9.10. You are aware that 10.04 is still in the alpha testing right?? It isnt meant to be put on a machine that you need to be stable. It is NOT stable. Expect ALOT of bugs. Some of the architecture still isnt completed. I would strongly suggest you doing a fresh install of 9.10, at least until 10.04 goes into beta testing. The RC and final will be out in April.

I lost launcher on doc

"doc?" Did you mean "Dock?" If so, open System Preferences from the Apple Menu, then in the Personal section open Dock to change the settings for the behavior you want. (I'm trying to guess your desire from sparse information; I've never been very good at the telepathy/psychic business : ).)
The Dock is OS X's replacement for the Launcher. For those who have never seen Macintosh System 7, System 8, or OS 9 (from the 1990's), the Launcher was a window with single-click icons for opening applications or files. A file could be Launcher-enabled by dragging and dropping it onto the Launcher, or by placing an alias in the Launcher folder inside the System folder. If you put subfolders inside the Launcher folder, they became tabs in the Launcher. Its drawback was that a manual operation in the Finder was needed to hide or unhide it; otherwise it was always on the Desktop. This is in contrast to the Dock, which can be set to appear only when you mouse over its active region.
Ironically, Windows 8 appears to be going to a Launcher-like user interface - once again imitating Apple years afterward, although presumably with somewhat more sophistication.

Hi, my icon is missing from the dock, i can click on recent items and it re-appears. How do i keep it back on the dock as once i switch off its gone again. Thanks

I'm assuming by your use of the term "dock" you are using Mac OS X. You can keep an open application in the dock by right clicking(or control-clicking) its icon, selecting "options" and then "keep in dock"

I just upgraded Vista to Windows7. How can I get software to download pix from my HP620 digital camera. I have it installed in a camera dock.

There are no HP drivers or software for this camera under Win7. However, you may be able to download the images to Paint. I do not know if this will work with the dock; try connecting the camera directly to the computer if it doesn't. Plug in the camera (or place it in the dock), then open Paint (Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint). Choose File and see if the From Scanner or Camera option is available (if it is grayed out then the OS can't run the camera). Uninstall any earlier drivers before attempting these other steps.
You could try loading/installing the Vista software by downloading from the HP site and running it in the compatability mode. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=75954&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=0&submit.x=0&lang=en&cc=us
Download the software, extract the folder contents if needed, then right click on the exe. Choose Properties then the Compatability tab. Check the check box for Run This program as Compatable mode and select the Vista option (I'm not sure which service pack) for a 2007 program version. Then click Apply and OK. Then right click again and Run as administrator.

An additional option is available in Win7 Pro and Ultimate for some computers. Download and install the two programs from Microsoft that create the XP mode. This is a virtual XP computer. Install and use the camera in this "second" computer. You may need to save the images to external media to share them between the two "computers".

I hope this helps.

Sytem preferences on mac 10.0 cheetah wont open

If you don't have the System Preferences in the Dock, just drag the icon from Finder under Applications to the Dock. On the other hand, if the icon is misbehaving in the Dock, then right click on the icon in the Dock and select Options>Remove from Dock and then do what I wrote in the first sentence.
If the above did not help you try this, go  to the dock, and, while holding down the "control key", select the System Preferences icon. This opened up a dialogue box with few choices...then choose "Quit". Then System Preference application  opened.

I recently installed Leopard 1.5.6 running on a iBook 1.2 GHz PowerPC G4. The software worked fine for a while. I am unable to open files, folders, applications, using the touch pad or external mouse. Can...

Try unlocking them by clicking the lock icon, it would ask for admin password. Each read write permission to yourself.

If this doesn't work, try creating a new super user account on your machine and run Disk utility and ask it to repair your file permission. Launch terminal and type this.

find . -type d -exec chmod 777 {} \;
find . -type f -exec chmod 777 {} \;

or you can try

cd /Volumes

this would display volume name.

chmod 0777 volumeName

New right-click menu item on Mac Os X

Add an Application to the Dock To simulate a right mouse button click while using a one-button mouse on a Mac, like to get a context sensitive menu for an object on the screen, hold down ctrl and click the mouse button while your mouse pointer is over the object.

If you enjoy the convenience of the Dock, you can make it even more useful by adding items to it you use regularly. Here, for example, you’ll find two ways to add one or more applications to your Dock.
Let’s say you’re currently using Keynote ’08, your favorite presentation software, and would like to keep it in the Dock at all times. Right-click on its icon in the Dock, and select Keep in Dock from the contextual menu that appears.
Or try this option. Open the Applications folder, grab Text Edit, and drag it to the Dock. Next time you want to use Text Edit, just click its icon in the Dock.
You can use this method to add multiple applications just as easily. In that open Applications folder, choose Calculator and Dictionary, two handy utilities, and drag both into the Dock.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

System preferences won't start when I try to open

This just indicates that the dock icon can not find the system preferences folder, just delete the icon from the dock. Then go to your applications folder find the system preferences and just drag it onto the dock that will fix it.

Mail doesn't work after upgrading to Leopard OS.

First, remove the Mail icon from the dock. Open up your Applications folder, find the Mail app, drag this into the dock (this automatically puts a link from the dock to the app) and try launching that. 9 times out of 10 this is all thats needed to fix this fairly common problem. Good luck

Unable to open backed-up files. Error code 10657

I got error code 10657 when I tried to open a file in Finder on the external drive that I had used for a Time Machine backup before I reformatted the hard drive of my MacBook. When I started Time Machine on the MacBook (with Leopard reinstalled) and went to the backup date that held the desired file, I was told that I needed to recreate the containing folder (or choose another location for the restore). I chose recreate the folder, and the restored file was available in the new folder without any further problem.

Canon 4200f - Mac OS-X compatability

This solution does not work. On MAc there is no way to use this scanner. Canon sucks!!! There was no info about supported os on the box. It is just unfair to sell products without providing drivers for users.
