Hi,
Could someone please assist with this query.
I have a Wharfedale dvd1100hdmi with USB ports, HDMI port and aso SD memory card slot.
I am trying to play movies from a 500GB external Hard drive via USB but this does not work.
I am able to play movies via a USB 2 GB memory stick.
I have ensured that the hard drive is partitioned for FAT 32 same as the USB stick.
The DVD play just displays 'USB Read [07% (0252)] and does not do anything else.
Can someone please help as I have tried different solutions for the last two months i.e ensuring that HD has active primary partition etc.
Thanks...Charles ( South Africa)
I'm sure you probably have done this but i gotta ask!
When using usb there's enough power to run the usb key. When using 2.5inch hard drive the usb has enough power to run it. When using a 500gig you will need a separate powersource for it so check to make sure thats the case.
Also, a lot of these dvds will will only work with ide external harddrives and not sata external ones so make sure you use ide drives only.
good luck

Try updating your firmware, you can get it at your manufactures web page.. Look at your manual for instructions and the home page,.
Here is the home page link
www.wharfedale.co.uk/
use the contact link , tell them your problem and request the firmware update.. They will post the firware link back to you together with the details on how to use it..
I dont think its a power problem cause he said that the drive reads up to 07%... I think it is the firmware.. @ smeago
HEY DID YOU TRY WHAT I SUGGESTED ?

It's unlikely that you're doing something wrong. Did you buy this DVD player as one that is supposed to support connecting hard drives? If not, then the player probably doesn't support connecting a hard drive.
Was your friend using a smaller hard drive? You can often run into issues when using large capacity hard drives with these DVD players. If he has a smaller one that works, try connecting his to your DVD player and see if it works.
As smeago said, since it could be a problem with the DVD player not being able to power the hard drive, you should try using your friend's drive because if it works, it means there's some sort of incompatibility between your drive and the player (possibly the USB power issue or the IDE\SATA issue) and you should try using another one. If your friend's drive doesn't work, your model either doesn't support this function or your specific DVD player is defective in that it doesn't work with hard drives so there's not much else we can do.

Hi,
Yes,One of my colleagues has bought the previous and older Wharfedale model that does connect to the USB hard drive and this is the upgrade to that model.
Also the USB memory stick is exactly the same as a hard drive with partitions and Fat32 etc..
So i do not think this is the issue..

Hi,
The sales person has advised that this setup works for other customers.
My friends hard drive is 300GB and he has tried my hard drive on his DVD player with no issues..sees all the movie files.
I have however not tried his Hard drive on my system..will try this.
In the interim if any of you panel can also suggest other ideas, I can try them concurrently as well.
Thanks.
Hi,
I tried this several times and they do not provide firmware upgrades but the clueless people there advised after 10 different calls that I should search ' somewhere ' on the internet for a firmware upgrade.
I have tried searching on the internet and this is virtually impossible without a specific URL, even using Google and others..
BTW no one there knows if this would resolve the issue..so any further suggestions would help ..
Thanks.
