1> UNPLUG THE TOOL to prevent any accidents

2>near the bit, there is a button. Push this button and manually rotate the chuck until it locks into place.

3>using the included wrench, turn the chuck counter clockwise until the bit is released.

4>reverse the process to install a new bit

5>make certain the chuck is tight so the bit doesn't come out during use

Trying to change drill bit on Craftsman Rotary Variable speed drill

Lock the spindle (small chrome button near the tool's nose or lever at the power switch). You'll probably need to rotate the spindle by hand as much as one full turn as you do this, to get the lock to drop into place.

With the spindle locked, use your supplied wrench to turn the collet nut counter-clockwise (as seen from the cutter end) about one full turn. The collet should now be plenty loose enough to release the cutter / wheel / drill.

Do all sds drills have chisel function?

The SDS designation relates more to the type of chuck on the tool for the bits than to the tool/drill itself. There are both chisels and drill bits with SDS-Plus and SDS-Max shanks, SDS-Max being the the larger of the two. As far as the tools go: Demolition hammers will only hammer and can only use pointed chisels, scaling chisels, scrapers, etc, not anything like a drill bit that requires spinning to work. Rotary hammers can hammer and rotate the bits. Rotary hammers have a selector switch with two or three positions; one for hammer only for the above demolition bits, one for rotary hammer for use with carbite tipped drill bits, and some have a position for rotation only. The rotary hammer is a more versitile tool but more expensive because of extra workings inside.

I borrowed a black and decker rotary tool (RT 550). I can't seem to get the bit off or be able to change bits. There is no tool to use to open the bit and everywhere on-line it says ''quick swap of bit...

slide the orange on/off switch all the way back then push in the black button the switch slides over. This will lock the shaft-then use small wrench provided w/ tool to turn the collet nut

I have a rotary wizard and no instruction book. How do i change the tool

If this is a Black and Decker you can go to Dewaltservicenet.com and find a manual there usually. If not there is a phone number that you can call and probably get one.
