How can i upload pictures from my nikon coolpix camera to my computer. I have the usb cord and nothing pops up on the computer, when i connect it

  • steelcity277 Oct 12, 2009

if it doesn't interpret it as another hard drive, do u think the cable is the problem? or is there a setting on the camera that may be not turned on, to have the computer read it.

Hi Steel,

Open Windows Explorer and click on My Computer so it displays the drives.

When you attach your camera to the USB cable, the computer should interpret it as another hard drive being attached.

If it doesn't pop up immediately, click on View, then click refresh. It should show up then.

Best regards,
Mike

    Hi Steel,

When you do plug it in, does anything at all happen with the camera or the computer?

My camera blinks on. If yours doesn't try hitting it's power button.

But no matter what, you should be getting a message like 'New hardware detected'. If you aren't, then yes, there could be a connectivity problem and the cable would be my first choice for suspects.

If another computer is available, try plugging it in there. With or without software, the computer should still recognize new hardware.

Let me know what you find out
    Mike

Nikon coolpix S3000 problem

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

My camera usb cord is plugged in and the camera is on, but nothing pops up to let me upload the pictures

On a Windows PC, go into "My Computer" and look for an extra drive (Under "Devices with Removable Storage") and open that. There should be directories with picture files in them that you can drag to your desktop.

What software are you using now? You can download the latest version of Nikon Transfer from http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

In addition to Nikon Transfer there are plenty of other photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

I have a Intel Mac Powerbook running OS10.5.8
On a coolpix 100, the default setting is that the camera is charged by the computer through the USB cable. You need switch that OFF.
While the camera still does not show as usb device, you can access it through the Nikon transfer program AND through iPhoto
