I suggest to save your self some money, Stop by your local Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts and they will check it for you for free rather than paying a shop for the same thing. The check engine light comes on for different issues your car could have from a bad spark plug wire to belive it or not taking your gas cap off while the car is running can cause the light to come on.

If you turn you ignition switch 3 times on and off(w/o turning the car on) the check engine light should start flashing. First it will flash so many times. Ex) 3 flashes, write down three. Then it will pause and then start flashing again. Ex) 4 flashes, write down four. Then there will be one final flash, JUST ONE. That means it is done. Now, if you wrote down 3 and 4 then your code is 34.
Each code has each separate error or faulty part in your car.
