SOURCE: Wiring compressor

The two terminal cap is only for the new fan motor. Connect the compressor wire back where you found it, on the 3 terminal cap. It's the terminal marked, "herm". The "common" terminal on the 3 terminal cap must still be connected to one side of the 220 power at the contactor. One side of the 220 goes to the common on the compressor. The other side of the 220 goes to the run winding on the compressor AND the common terminal on the 3 terminal capacitor.

SOURCE: Installing hard start capacitor

Hi, welcome to fixya. Color coding is not universal so we can't go strictly by that. You want to look at the top of the run capacitor and connect the two leads to the terminals marked C or common and the one marked comp. Be sure not to connect to the terminal marked F or fan. I hope this helped. Please don't forget to return and give me a fixya rating.

SOURCE: I am replacing the a/c

Motor Wiring
Old Motor
Brown wire is Start
Yellow wire is run or Power
Black wire is High Speed or Common
The other two taps are speed taps, but you have a single speed application
And high speed is what you need ,that’s why there’s not any wires
on Red and Blue if high speed was to much then you would move the
Black wire to one of the other taps RED low speed or Blue Medinm speed
New Motor
White goes to the Yellow wire from the capacitor
Black goes to the Black wire you took off of high speed on old motor
Of course both Brown wires go to the capacitor and Green to ground
If a capacitor doesn’t discharge it doesn’t mean it’s bad
but the capacitors don’t last as long as they used.
Any time you put in a new motor always replace the capacitor
It will save you a lot of time and grief later on.

SOURCE: REPPLACING FAN AND COMPRESSOR CAPACITORS WITH A SINGLE UNIT

Well, it sounds as if you have a Coleman rooftop unit. If you have a start capacitor with a PTCR (Postive Temperature Coefficient Resistor) then it is different than if you have a Potential Motor Starting Relay. Why are you replacing the run and the fan capacitor?

Here is a link to the documentation that you need. If you do not have a Coleman and it is in fact a Duo-Therm, let me know the model number and I will be able to pull up the wiring schematic.

Thanks,

Jeff

SOURCE: "i'm replacing my Rheem RBGC

There should be a wiring diagram on the side of the new motor.
The brown and the brown w/ white go to the new capacitor you should have bought with the motor.
The black and white go to your L1 & L2 power source. The remaining wires must be capped off.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. although a day late it confirmed what a friend had told me also. Didn't see any wiring diagram on the new motor."

Replaced a ge condensor fan 3 wire with new dayton the wires are different...old fan has a wire connectort mouted to it orange, black yellow, the new one 2brown 1 with white stripe, purple, black, i have...

the new ge fan requires its own capacitor, the brown and the brown/white go direct to new fan capacitor. black to relay (leg one of power) purple to relay (leg two of power. the compressor will have a wire to the relay and the other to the herm terminal. you now will have nothing to the original capacitor fan terminal.
The new motor will have the diagram showing this. you need the capacitor that goes with the new motor. the grainger guy should have sold that to you with the motor.
