98 Ford Explorer Brake lights not working, top brake light does

On my 98 Ford Explorer my brake lights don't work, but my top brake light does when pressing the pedal. With no lights on my top brake light flickers like a strobe light all the time. Any input or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks SkipperDan

I had a similar problem like this with my 98 explorer once; neither brake lights worked and the top one stayed on very dimly at all times. It turns out both of my brake lights went bad at exactly the same time, which for some reason made the top light stay on. Felt like an idiot, but all I needed to do was change the bulbs.

Since those are different circuits, it sounds like a break in the wiring harness somewhere.

My 03 ford explorer wont go into park. It taks the other gears but not park. please help

Check the brake lights, if they don't work the system will not come out of part. if the brake lights are not working check the brake light switch connector, the wire breaks inside the connector and although the switch is connected there is not any actual electrical connection just plastic insulator over broken wires. The dealer sells repair connectors.

check to make sure the brake lights are working as some of these won`t release the park lock if the brake lights don`t work.then check the fuses with a test light and replace as needed

My bottom break light won't work. The top brake light works but neither bottom lights work. I've checked the fuse and replaced both bulbs but they still don't work. When I manually engage the brake pedal...

You may have a problem with the turn signal switch, as power comes out of that switch to power the brake lights, the high mounted brake light does not go through that switch.

Tail lights on my 1995 for explorer work but brake lights wont come on top bar brake light works but bottom brake lights on tail light dont work what could be the problem

your brake lights also go through your turn signal switch, also known as the multifunction switch. You will have to remove the cover around the lower part of steering column to gain access to the switch.

2001 ford sports trac brake lights not working ,

This may be a simple fix, where the wheel jack or washer bottle is located in the back behind the panel, there should be connectors for the rear lights, it is possible that the plug has been dislodged, remove the panels and check the plug connections. Good luck.

Brake lights and turn signals not working, top back hatch brake w

Most Ford Explorers sometimes have a electrical problem, you can replace bulb if that don''t work try to move the wires around, and find out if it is wiring if so either take it to get wire harness replaced or u can test new bulbs

98 Ford Explorer No Brake Lights

There should be some adjustment on it, if not replace it, it's about a $12 item.
