In the setup process for xp,you need to delete and format any partition on drive c.

This will completly erase any vista os files and allow xp to install.

try this website there is the option for Xp an vista, download driver, save it and then install it.

select your OS it is the same driver for Xp home, pro and the same for Vista home, pro, ultimate

if u have installed VISTA then u can use these drivers here for motherboard and sound vga and whatever u want

but if u have WinXP installed then HP doesnt support drivers for XP as this machine came for VISTA so tell me further i need to give u a workaround links for those drivers separately

first of all let me tell u one thing u cannot install XP when you have Vista, cause higher version will never take a lower version of os. for this i recommend that u format your hard disk drive. now you say that you computer says there is no hard drive detected for this is recommend do little change in your cmos setup disable sata port thats it

Well yes and no. I believe you're asking if you can remove vista to install xp? It is possible to do so however HP/Compaq use a proprietary software to "tattoo" the motherboard which designates the unit as either a Vista computer or Other OS computer. Though it is possible to install and run XP on a Vista machine, complications may arise causing things like the OS to not properly validate and other software related issues.

For Installing Vista, some users reported that after resetting the BIOS to default (F9), the VISTA installation running smoothly.

In your bios the information of "non vista os installed" is "the Factory installed OS" for this laptop. Probably, you bought this laptop with freedos OS.

I recommend you to install VISTA for this model, however, some users with their own reasons feel the need of XP as their OS.

Up till now, they end up having a hardware conflict between Audio and modem. Some of them can tolerate it, some still finding for the solution.

Unfortunately, they could NOT ask a help from HP/Compaq since HP/Compaq ONLY support VISTA for Operating System.

i have been serching around and it seems compaq.hp does not supply a eternet driver for xp unless you aretalking about the wifi card drivers it seems xp is supposed to have the drivers with it. i do not know what you meen by "how will i get vista on net?" i will keep looking for a sulution
