Hi i bought a Pentax smart pump an i don't no anything about water pump so i will like to no y everytime i put on the pump it start up working fine fullin up my water tanks den 5 to 10 minutes it cuts off an will not come back on unit i pull the plug an put it back on

new pump perhaps

I'm no expert on jet-skis or anything but it sounds like you may have a "water-pump" issue. In the water it bogs and cuts out..... but put a "flow" of water from a "hose" and it runs fine out the water, the flow of water surpasses the water-pump and allows flow to cool the engine. seems as the PSI based switch maybe having issues inside the pump most likely

I take that the vehicle is a jet ski. They work by the engine driving a centrifical pump to expel water at pressure at the out let. If it runs well out of water there is no load on the engine I would be checking things like spark plugs, timing exhaust blockages Corrosion in water jackets in exhaust as when it is water there would be water cooled exhaust.

fisrt of all your alternator is not charging well n there is something draining your battery but can u explain 2 me more am willing to help you

• So your saying you turn the key to start and nothing 3-4 times? What I am understanding is it don't want to start for a few times.
• I'd sure like to know what the fuel pressure readings were. There is a pressure test when it is running and when the vehicle is off to make sure the pressure is maintained when the vehicle is turned off. If pressure is not held when the vehicle is turned off then it will do exactly what you are saying it does. Which could be a few things, fuel pump and fuel filter for starters.
• Possibility of some bad gas of gas with more water than should be in it and the water is freezing just enough to slow the flow of fuel down. I like to use "heat" in the colder months for just this reason.
• Are we on the same page?

This happened to me I had to spray Starting fluid everytime eventually. Starting fluid wouldn't work after awhile. Its the fuel pump. Even though it comes on and works its not producing enough fuel pressure to start the engine. It's probably giving about 12-13lbs of pressure but it needs atleast 14lbs. of pressure. And a word of advice to buy a ACDelco original fuel pump if you don't want to have to replace it again in 1-2 years, it's more expensive but will last.

sounds like the fuel pressure regulator,also make sure the fuel pump and sending unit are working properly. happened to 99 olds of mine! good luck

Hi there. I had a lincoln towncar around the same year do the same thing and it was the waterpump. I doubt its just the gasket since it is overheating all the time now. The pump on mine was for the 5.0(302) it was 28 dollars but it was not real easy to change as far as waterpumps go. I would get a hayes or chiltons manual if your not real farmiliar with these before attempting to change it.
