Dear Laurie,
Well, yes it is right.
All things wear out, cars are no exception.
Your heater hoses have lasted 10 years, and that is surely good, few last longer than that.
You will need to have them all replaced, or they will keep on failing rather quickly.
While you are at it, carefully check the radiator hoses as well.
God bless your efforts.
Gurgling when shut off could be (as on my car) the radiator's overflow bottle feeding back into the radiator as it cools, or still boiling into overflow bottle if very hot.
Heater hose should be renewed ASAP as coolant loss may be causing overheating / gurgling and will likely cause major damage to engine if left unfixed.
Is hose cracked?
Might just need re-sealant and hose-clamp.
If you seal allow several hours to set completely otherwise steam pressure could push wet sealer out.
Is this helpful?
SOURCE: antifreeze leak
Inspect hoses and generally cooling system after you have warm up engine at operation temperature and stopped. See if steam somewhere comes out .
If cooling system doesnt leaks outside, perhaps engine head gasket is broken. to have an estimate watch if your exhaust is leaking some water or steam when starting engine.

watch for leaks and follow them after you drive i would geuss checking your thermostate housing both parts, the hoses that go to the heater core by the throttle body and the hose that goes to the throttle body, im guessing this is the turbo, if it is a non turbo it would be a hoses the waterpump or the oring that goes into the waterpipe on the front of the block, just get in there and take a good luck and remember the rules of gravity =) good luck man and if you need any parts for it let me know we got alot of these parts cars out in our yard
SOURCE: Brief antifreeze smell in Jeep
Make sure the cooling system is clean with fresh coolant when u change the core, otherwise u may damge the new core becuase your coolant is worn out, if your Jeep has over 60,000 it should be done anyway, also I recommend at least a new upper radiator hose while it is drainned and inspect the other parts of the system.
SOURCE: smell antifreeze, no leaks, gurgleing behind drivers side dash.
there is air in system causing gurgling/set heater to defrost and check for sweet smell. do while stopped if core is leaking windshield will fog up and be hard to clear.

have you had the undercarriage inspected for white stains from coolant, rust stains if your system is corroded? How many miles? has the water pump ever been replaced, that would be my guess, water pumps leak while the eng is running and the hot engine evaporates the coolant, so in many cases none on the ground. Also have the system pressure tested by a shop and put on a rack to check for signs of leaking under the car.
Testimonial: "Thank you for your answer. I have not changed the water pump since I bought the car 5 yrs ago. I will check that."
