SOURCE: Is the Bryant 661CJ030-A heat pump single- or multi-stage?

Single stage heat pump. But you must have a two stage tstat for backup electric heat. You single stage cool two stage heat. The second stage brings on the electric heat in case the heat pump can not keep up. Wiring goes r y w1 on most heat pump tstats are switchover valve or o terminal. W2 second stage heat or emergency heat. g is fan c is common terminal.Rus

I'm looking for a thermostat to replace my simple comfort 2200 it has 7 wires across B O W2 G E Y1 Y2 and 3 wires vertical R C L I'm looking for a thermostat to replace wire for wire. can you help??

What you have is a 2 stage cool/3 stage heat pump compatible tstat. And I'm guessing by the info you provided that the wires "across and vertical" are 2 sets of wires that are running inside the wall to your indoor unit. As if they didn't have enough wires and run an extra. We normally run 1 control wire with 5,8,10.or12 wires inside. And there should only be a wire connected to B or O, not both? Again I'm guessing. If I'm correct, then any "2 stage cool/3 stage heat" tstat that is "heat pump compatible" should work. I'm also assuming that you have wires connected to B or O. Now if you have a wire connected to both B & O, best call out someone to change it for you because that's different than I've ever seen. Also, the L is a wire used from the outdoor unit, and sometimes both indoor and outdoor, to communicate with the thermostat when something's wrong. Most multi-stage tstats will have this but you'll need to check/ask before you purchase if you want this feature. Also, after you install, be sure to configure the new that to match your system. Hope this helps!

Just purchased this heater, the fan comes on but the heat is next to nothing. I checked the voltage at the elements and is is 235v the amperage on L1 and L2 is 20.8a. If I pull the fan wire off the relay,...

First off, 20.8 amps is approximately the amperage draw on a single element furnace (nominally 5 kw.) So if you have 3 or 4 elements, (15 or 20 kw capacity) the problem is the remaining elements are not being enrgized. Look to see if there is a W1 and W2 and even possibly a W3 terminal on the terminal strip. If so, and its not a heat pump, there should be thermostat wires on all three, indicating three stages of heat. To energize those properly, the thermostat should be a multi-stage heating thermostat providing W1 and W2 at the minimum. If you do not have a multi stage thermostat, and there are no wires on W2 and W3, jumper W1, W2 and W3 together and the furnace will come on at full capacity with the single stage thermostat.

If you DO in fact have wires on the additional W terminals, you more than likely have a heat sequencer that is not energizing the 2nd and possibly the third stage of heat. A three element furnace is typically called a 15kw furnace and the three elements should draw approximately 19 to 20 amps each. So when each stage draws in, the clamp on amprobe on the main incoming wires will correspondingly increase with each stage.

Also, some 15 and 20 kw furnaces require two circuits to supply the elements, and I have been on calls before where the second breaker was not turned on, and in one case, the second circuit wasn't even wired in from the electrical panel box.

DO NOT pull the wire off the fan while the heaters are energized as they will rapidly cycle on an overtemp device. Some actually have a "one time" thermal link that once melted render the respective element inoperable until that thermal link is replaced. They will melt very easily. An energized element MUST have airflow across it !!!

We have bought a home with the wite rodgers thermostat 1f85-275 it doesn't seem to be working. on the top right of the screen it states 1&2 stages? anyway, help would be appriciated

Hi, this thermostat is for central heat and air systems that have more then 1 stage of heating or cooling. For example, your unit may have 2 stages of cooling, as in 2 compressors, or 1 stage of cooling and 2 stages of heating as used in commercial heat pumps. This is a multi-stage heat pump thermostat. It may be just a matter of programming the stat. If you can find a manual on it, this would help. If you open the cover, it should have directions on how to program it.Make sure you have power to everything, check all breakers to see if they may be shut of, even if you have a display, doesn't mean you have high voltage to run the unit. Make sure fan is in auto, and on heat or cool, and temperature set for it to come on. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely,

PS Your unit has 1 stage of cooling, and 2 stages of heating.

New thermostat not cooling. Blowing heat instead.

Hello You have only 5 wires? multi stage if so ,is run by something else.Check that RH/RC is jumped out on new stat.Also check that O is not on the B terminal.If there is an A/B select switch set it to O.Emergency heat button dont matter as there is no wire to run it with only 5 wires.

I have a Ruud air handler and i'm trying to use a

The 44360 tstat can be used for single stage Heat pump use only. Unless you are in an environment that has greater than 40 degF outdoor temperatures year-round, you will want to return that tstat and obtain a multi-stage Heat Pump tstat. The standard system is 2-stage......1st stage is Heat Pump Compressor and 2nd stage is the backup electric heat.

Hope this helps. Good Luck. :-)

What is the difference between stage two and aux heat?

The furnace shoud be wired to W1 amd EM Heat. If your heater is a two stage furnace then hook the thermostat W1 to stage 1 amd W2 to stage 2. Most new 2 stage heaters will control stage 2 with the control board.

Heat pump goes str8 to heating strips compressor does not run in heat mode pump was manufactured in 03 installed in 07 and has sat dormant till now could it be wired wrong it is a ruud split unit with...

I think that you have the right idea. The wiring is probably wrong. If you can trace the low voltage wires to the air handler. make sure that the Y1 wire on the t-stat is going to Y1 on the hair handler and then to the condenser. The Y2 wire should be going to Y2 on the air handler and probably does not continue out to the condenser. The Y2 should be going to the contacor that brings on your backup heat. It seems like Y1 and Y2 are reversed somewhere.

RTH7400 thermostat installed-screen display unlit-used page 10 wire installation. Used heat pump wiring-which does not show W2 and Y2 on heat pump schematic, so used conventional displayed W2 and Y2...

w2 and y2 are used for 2stage applications

w2 = 2 stage heat
y2= 2 stage cool

If your system is a single stage system, look for the y1 and y2 terminals. If the thermostat does not have y1 and y2 then you may have the wrong thermostat. As always, please read the directions carefully. Thanks!
