My car will not crank the battery is charged, the starter is new but it only makes a click noise when the ignition is turned

fully charged batteries can fail when the high load of a starter is applied to then
have a battery load test done to eliminate the battery, then check for dirty terminals ( posts and terminals have to be shiny clean and tight)
check for failed battery leads and dirty earth point or loose earth point.

Car issues

WHAT CONDITION ARE YOUR BATTERY CABLES ? THEY MAY SEEM OK, BUT SOMETIMES REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY ! BATTERY TERMINALS MUST BE CLEANED, SMEAR SOME VASOLINE ON TERMINALS BEFORE MOUNTING THEM, BESURE TERMINALS ARE TIGHT !!! THE (NEGATIVE) CABLE OR GROUND IS VERY IMPORTANT ! A GOOD CONNECTION IS PARAMOUNT !!! INSPECT STARTER/SOLONOID CONNECTIONS, THEY MUST BE CLEAN, PROPERLY CONNECTED , TIGHT !!! TIGHT IS TIGHT, TOO TIGHT IS BROKE !!! MAKE SURE BATTERY IS IN GOOD,CLEAN CONDITION, FULLY CHARGED !!! YOU DID REPLACE THE STARTER WITH A NEW SOLONOID I HOPE ! ITS THIS ELECTRO-MAGNET THAT INGAGES THE STARTER INTO THE FLYWHEEL TO CRANK THE ENGINE . THEY WORK TOGETHER ! TAPPING ON THE STARTER TELLS ME, POSSIBLE LOOSE CONNECTION, EITHER INSIDE OR OUTSIDE SOLONOID . ALTERNATOR PROBLEM ? TAKE TO AUTOPARTS STORE, HAVE THEM CHECK BOTH THE BATTERY & ALTERNATOR . ITS FREE ! CHECK THE ALTERNATOR BELT FOR WEAR, WHETHER ITS TIGHT, LOOSE, ETC., A WORN OR LOOSE BELT WILL SLIP, NOT ALLOWING THE ALTERNATOR TO DO ITS JOB, CHARGING THE BATTERY !!! ONE MORE THING, ITS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE ENGINE TUNED-UP, ESPECIALLY BOTH AIR & FUEL FILTERS, SPARK PLUGS & PLUG WIRES SHOULD BE REPLACED AS WELL, THEY DO WEAR OUT !!! DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR NEED ATTENTION ALSO, REPLACE THEM ! BACK TOO YOUR SRARTER/SOLONOID, SOMETIMES EVEN NEW ELECTRICAL PARTS GO BAD, IT HAPPENS ALOT, THEY COME FROM MEXICO, CHINA, ETC., NEED I SAY MORE ???

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 5.2 i just put a new battery in this morning by 1 :30 the truck would not start not even turn the starter but all the gauges and lights where on

I would start with the basic's. Check and make sure good connection at both terminals. Make sure battery is fully charged. Make sure all ground wire's from negative terminal to truck frame are snug. Recently had this same problem a week ago on friends truck it was also a 94 ram. It was just a ground wire from battery to frame. After that check the fuses and relays. Good Luck.

Changed battery and car will not start and turn over

You might have a bad connection. Check your ignition fuse first. It may have blown. Make sure the battery terminals are on good. You should see a spark or hear the current when you take the terminal and hit the post. Listen and look to see if the battery is holding a charge. If so, you need to check the wires that go from the battery to your starter. Make sure they are getting current off the battery. You can test then with a voltage meter. Make sure the battery post and terminal ends are cleaned. Your battery, if new, should be given off over 12V or around it. Patricia, If it is not the fuse, check the wires. Make sure they are on the battery correct and the wires are tight. If you have a question, please let me know. I am here to help. Feel free to write back Patricia. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

1995 dodge ram 1500, the battery is fully charged but there is no power to anything at all including interior lights and headlights, horn etc.

Trace the Positive (+) wire from the battery to the starter. Ensure that the connection at the starter is tight.

Also, check that the battery connections are cleaned up shiny and new with a wire brush, and connected tightly.

Also, check that the ground connection at the frame or body, from the Negative (-) wire is tight.

If the above steps don't solve the problem, look for a main fusible link or fuse that has blown that is close to the thick positive wire.

Good luck on this repair.

How do I install a new starter in a 93 Dodge Ram van B-250 8 cyl.

Park van so that you can safely access the starter. I use ramps under front wheels and put it in park and set the parking brakes. Disconnect positive battery cable at battery, disconnect starter battery cable and ignition wires from starter solenoid (remember terminal locations as these will attach to new starter solenoid). Remove old starter. Replace with new starter. Re-attach wiring in reverse order.
