Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We are defrosting our Brada chest freezer model Hs-129C/HS 185 c/HS-258C. ( don't know which one from manual ) The manual has no diagrams, but says to put a shallow tray below the drain plug .

There is no room under freezer to put even a saucer. how do we collect water that drips out when we defrost? Is there a secret panel somewhere ?

When I defrosted my freezer I simply removed any ice as it got loose, then used a sponge to pick up any water on bottom of it. It did not have any way to drain it....

Testimonial: "Looks like that is what we will have to do. It has a drain plug inside the freezer at the bottom, but no visible way to get at any water that drains out. Too low to the floor to put a tray to catch water, and no panel to remove, that we can find."

Tip

Refrigerator not cooling-freezer section icing up

Refrigerator not cooling, ice forming on back of side-by-side freezer:
Turn off unit. Empty freezer section. Remove freezer back panel (4 screws) to expose iced-over coils. Use a fan to speed up defrosting. Put a towel or a plastic drip pan in the bottom of the freezer to collect melting water (rather than letting the water collect and maybe overflowing in the drip pan underneath the refrigerator).
After defrosting, by temporarily replacing the freezer back panel and turning on the unit, the refrigerator may operate OK for about 3 weeks before the next excessive ice build up.
Possible problem- a burned out Defrost Heater.
To check: After defrosting, turn off power to or unplug the refrigerator.
Unscrew the Defrost Heater bracket (2 screws). When loose, unplug the two wires connected to the unit. Have the unit checked, or use an ohm-meter to check continuity. If unit measures "open", high resistance, replace the Defrost Heater and bracket. If the heating element shows continuity (or low resistance) the heater is probably OK and you have another problem. Now you may need to contact a repair man.

Water collecting under bottom draws inside frig

Hello,

That water is very likely dripping from the freezer because the drain for the defrost is blocked,so instead of the water draining its dripping through the vents down under the crispers. This tip i wrote will help ya to clear that drain to keep the water from dripping through the vents.

Water collecting on top shelf of refridgerator

Your defrost drain line in the freezer has stopped up. The defrost water is coming in through the air vent to the fresh food section.
Turn the unit off and use a hair dryer to defrost the drain hole located behind the freezer panel.

I have a 6-7 year old Magic chef top freezer, refrig which is collecting water each day at the inside bottom of the box, refrigerator section. I notice that a slight drip of water comes thru the middle...

Hi,

The defrost drain is located just under the cooling coils in the back of the freezer. You will need to unload the food and remove the shelves from the freezer. Take the back panel off from inside the freezer and you will see a hole just below the coils. Flush it with hot water using a turkey baster or small hose. See the link below for more details.
