Car makes clanking sound from exhaust

After I run my car for any amount of time. My car will have a loud clanking clunking sound occasionally from the exhaust at the engine. sounds like something is like getting flicked against the inner wall or something. I listen from underneath the car, sound doesn't originate from under, or near the back. I wonder if it can be a bad catalytic convert, but am not too sure what it is. Car runs great. no leaks, no problems anymore. It make this sound prior to me rebuilding my engine b/c the head gasket went. I would upload a video but this site doesnt have anything like that for me to share it. Any ideas what i should look into? Does it seem serious? It's been like that for probably... hmm 4-5 months maybe When the car is off, it will make the clanking sound for about an hour every couple minutes or seconds depending on how hot the car was

Is it normal for my 2012 subaru outback to have a loud popping/clunking sound after I am done driving it (shut the car off)? I Have heard it from my previous car as a cooling thing but this seems loud

run the fault codes as it may be an indication that the cat converter is running at an excessive temperature due to incorrect air/fuel mixture settings from the ECM

Clunking noise from 09 charger front end

That sounds like a loose exhaust pipe or a metal cover plate underneath that has come loose.Check it out.

Hi, when i'm coming off the third and the second gear mainly the 2nd gear it makes a clanking noise

My first thought here is your drive shaft u joints, but only because I've been stranded more than once by these. The higher torque of second will definitely make a worn u-joint "clunk". with the window down listen carefully as you engage and release your clutch in 1st gear, if you here any "clunking" noise I would check your u-joints. To do this SAFELY;ie, using jack stand etc. get under your car and try to turn the drive shaft by hand with the car in gear. ANY play in the drive shaft is bad. I'm not sure if you meant you've changed your clutch and the pressure plate or you did change out you flywheel. either way whichever you did not change could definitely be warped.

1999 Nissan Sentra GXE Limited Edition, over 134k miles on it. Was driving down the freeway and hit a pothole, the engine started making a loud clanking/popping sound. As we pulled over, i took a look to...

It could be a broken Oil Pump, Is there oil in the engine or when you hit the pothole you could have hit the Exhaust Pipe and broke the pipe causing a Exhaust Leak.

Clunking sound upon starting and white smoke from

Don't rebuild that engine. Replace the head gasket. machining the head is not necessary. Clean both surfaces with fine emery cloth.

I have a loud clunking noise that happens when I turn the steering wheel left and right. And I have a clunk when you put in to drive, but when car is warmed up it doesn't seem to be as bad. Can anyone...

The clunk you are hearing when the car is placed into drive is the "slack" in the drive train being taken out. It should pose no problem and without knowing the type of car you are driving is difficult to judge if it may be something more serious. If anything it could be the universal or CV (constant Velocity) joints making the sound from excess wear. The clanking when the wheel is turned could be CV joints getting old and needing replaced (Front wheel drive and 4WD only. Rear Wheel drive Universal Joint) or it could be excessively worn parts in the steering system. Definitely have this looked at.
