With my garmin Nuvi 260 connected to a PC can I program a group of destinations and save them in favorites from the pc.

I'm not sure about the above product number but on the unit it says Nuvi 260. We have a series of destinations to enter and it seem it would be easier to have the ability to do it from a PC. I have Garmin loaded on the PC but can't find any obvious way of doing this.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 260 - how to activate text to speech

Question: How do I change the Voice Language setting on my nuvi 2xx?
--> Answer: All of the Garmin® automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (example: Turn Right in 500 feet) as well as Text-to-Speech (TTS) voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names. In order to change this setting on the nüvi® 2xx series, follow these steps:

  1. In the Main Menu, touch Tools (Wrench icon).
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Press the Down arrow in the bottom right corner.
  4. Select Language.
  5. The first line on this screen is the Voice language. Touch the Current Voice option for the GPS device listed to change the Voice.
  6. Select a Voice that is labeled TTS. These will speak street names. Options without the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  7. Select OK. The Voice has now been changed.
The device should now speak street names. This is tghe solution that I found on the Garmin site. It worked for my device. Hope this is helpful. solution = solution1description.innerHTML; Last modified on: 04/14/2008

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 260 - Favorites won't open

You could try a master reset:

  1. Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power.
  2. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil.
  3. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON.
  4. After the unit powers ON, you will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
  5. When this message displays, remove your finger from the bottom right of the screen and touch Yes.
  6. The unit will go through the Master Reset.
  7. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up your nuvi.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

SOURCE: my garmin nuvi 260 will not go past the loading maps screen

There is a corrupt or missing file associated with the mapping thats causing it to lock up. When that file is missing, your Nuvi never gets to the routine for communicating with your PC. That's why your PC can't detect it.

I've fixed this problem before. The unit must be placed in PRE-BOOT mode, forcing Windows to recognize it and then using a specific program, reflash the firmware to an older version that doesn't care that the file is missing. The unit will then boot properly and you'll regain detection to the unit in Windows. Then you can repair/replace the missing files and then reflash back to the latest firmware.

Yes, its a pain and not an easy process to the novice.

SOURCE: My Garmin Nuvi 260 is frozen on the Garmin screen

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.

Please ensure that the device is receiving a charge while it is connected to the vehicle power cable. If the battery is receiving power from the vehicle power cable then the battery icon (located next to the time) would disappear from the Main Menu. clip_image001.jpg clip_image002.jpg
If the unit does not power on while attached to the vehicle power cable please follow steps from below to perform a soft reset:

  1. Connect the device to an external power source1
  2. Slide and hold the power key to the on position for 15 seconds
The device should power on. Notes:
  1. Preferably the vehicle power cable or a USB cable from a computer
  2. Some of the older Nuvi 200 series will have a reset button on the bottom of the device. It can be found on the bottom of the device on the same sticker that the serial number is printed on.
If your GPS unit powers down before it can fully boot up, the battery will need to be charged. Please charge the unit with the vehicle power cable or on a computer for at least three hours. After charging the unit, it should power on and function normally. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
