My car started making noises when accelerating , like a tapping noise .Went to start it there was a really loud clacking noise coming from engine .

Hi, Please check you engine oil as a first start. A loud noise could indicate engine failure or engine auxiliary components failure. You can know if the sound is tapping or knocking or if the sound is rubbing or grinding sound due to rotation. At time you may have a drive train fault

One of my vehicles started making a rather disturbing sound so I went to investigate and to hopefully fix it.

Gave the CV axle joints checked.

Get the engine mounts checked. A bad mount may allow part of the engine to lie on a body or frame part, allowing engine vibrations to become very loud. Torquing of the engine (under load) can cause the same type problems.

It sounds like you have a valve or rocker issue, I would run an engine cleaner through the engine. I suggest draining 1 quart of oil, pour in the cleaner and run engine for 5 min. Let engine cool and drain the oil. Pretty much another oil change. This will hopefully clean a sticking valve if this is the issue. But I also would check for anything hitting the pulley's or fans that may have came loose. I've seen this a lot. Good Luck. It may take 2 cleanings for the engine, so don't get disappointed.

Well you might be talking about a cam shaft noise or a crank-shaft noise. How does the oil look?
Is it over-due for an oil change?
What else can you tell me about the cars symptoms?

hi you have a worn camshaft it always makes noise when worn the tapping sounds louder when you accelerate.its important to have regular oil changes as the oil ways can become blocked and lead to this type of trouble if oil changes are over looked.also check for worn big end bearings that connect the pistons to the crank shaft.

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet
