Complete a Regular Restore
Step 1
Back up your iPod Touch's data to your computer before the restore to prevent losing data. You'll need to reinstall it after the restore process.
Step 3
Make sure your iPod Touch is connected to your computer.
Step 4
Pick "iPod Touch" in the Source pane of the iTunes program.
Step 5
Click on the Summary tab.
Step 6
Choose "Check for Update."
Step 7
Select "Restore" and follow the instructions to finish restoring your iPod Touch.
Complete an Advanced Restore
Step 1
If
following the steps in the previous section did not work, follow these
steps to perform an advanced restore. Turn off the power on the iPod
Touch.
Step 2
Plug the iPod Touch into your computer.
Step 3
Power on the iPod Touch.
Step 4
Press the "Home" and "Sleep/Wake" buttons together for 5 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Step 5
Release
the "Sleep/Wake" button but continue holding down the "Home" button.
The iPod Touch should reboot, and iTunes will notice the iPod Touch in
recovery mode.
Step 6
Return to the above section and follow those steps to restore your iPod Touch.

What your friend did was to try and jailbreak your iPod. Apple does not support that, and though it may be considered "legal", Apple may deny service to it.
To make sure you have been trying to restore it properly, try to follow this method:
Plug in your iPod into your computer and open up iTunes.
After a minute or so, scroll down on the left side of your screen until you see your iPod. Select it.
Your right screen should show some general information about your iPod. Scroll down the right side of your screen until you see a button labeled "Restore". Click it and click OK
This will reset your iPod back to factory settings. Anything you had on that iPod will be lost. It will bring you back to the welcome screen as if you bought your iPod for the first time. Follow the instructions and you should be set.
If this doesn't solve your problem, you should look up how to jailbreak your iPod Touch using the program your friend had used and follow those steps EXACTLY. This might have your iPod atleast functioning, then repeat the steps that I listed above. This should work.
With the phone UN-PLUGED and powered OFF. Hold the home button and plug into a computer using I-tunes. Continue to hold till the restore screen starts on the computer. You will restore the device to factory and loose everything but it will be useable.
lol connect it to itunes.. then go to the applications tab while in the ipod in tunes.. check the box where it says sync all apps to ipod.. then click the sync button at the bottom right
Press and hold the Home button for at least six seconds, until the application you were using quits.
If that doesn't work, turn off iPod touch and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't work, reset iPod touch. Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If iPod touch continues to freeze or not respond after you reset it
Reset iPod touch settings. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. All your preferences are reset, but your data and media are left untouched.
If that doesn't work, erase all content on iPod touch. From the Home screen choose Settings > General > Reset > "Erase All Content and Settings." All your preferences are reset, and all your data and media are removed from iPod touch.
To reset the iPhone or iPod Touch, press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button simultaneously at the same time for at least ten seconds, then the LCD display will clear and the Apple logo appears on the black background. When Apple logo appears, reset is done.
This same thing happened to me. I was playing fantastic contraption and my ipod screen just went black and wouldnt turn back on. When I plugged it in to a charger, it made that charging noise, but wouldnt turn on. SOLUTION: try holding in the sleep/wake(power) button, and the home button at the same time for about 15 seconds or until you see the white apple logo. That worked for me, hope you get it fixed.
you can re set it., hold down the menu key and the arrow key at the bottom... im pretty sure you wont lose all your songs.. if this doesnt work your only other option is taking it to apple
Connect the ipod to your computer and let it sit for about fifteen minutes. Then it should show up in your computer and under itunes. Usually, if your ipod dies completely, when you try to charge it using a wall or car charger, it will do that, just flashing the apple logo and going back off. Leaving it plugged up to the computer will allow the battery to charge normally, just enough so that it can come on and sync with itunes. While it is plugged into the computer and charging, it should say something like, battery very low, wait few minutes, charging. It should work after letting it sit plugged up to the computer.
You need to set your iPod to update manually, instead of syncing automatically when you plug it into the computer.
To do this, plug your iPod into your computer, and on the iPod info screen that pops up in iTunes when your iPod is connected, click "Manually Manage Files." You'll now have to click and drag your songs from your library to your iPod, but now you can also play songs on your computer directly from your iPod and delete songs from your library without deleting them from your iPod at the same time.
