Never had any problems out of it. Last night turned left at stop sign and steering wheel moved pretty far up and to the left. Now it moves all over the place. Didn't sound like anything broke, No loud pops or cracks. A small piece of steel fell from column. It is about 3/4 inch long, as round as a dime, and has small threaded hole on the what appears to be the top. I think it's a pin of some sort but not sure.

I agree with Saint. When ever a lift is installed, the strain on all steering components is amplified. So is the play when a ball joint starts to go. Checking all ball joints for rigidity is needed. If you can move one easily by hand, replace it.
Have a look at the truck I'm standing in front of in my avatar. I've got some experience in this area. ; )

I am not sure if I understand what your saying but durangos have problems with upper control arms and they have bushing kits or control arm replacements. and these both fix the upper control arm from moving and making the creeking noise.

I had this problem also. The wiper motor was good, but had a bad ground. On the bottom bolt there should be a metal mtab that gronds the motor to the firewall. If it's not making a good connection, it will not work. My new motor didn't work when I replaced it because of this also.

take off the interior rim panel under the steering wheel and tighten up your loose bolts on the column.
