Hi Ralph:
Sounds similar to a dry bearing problem that I experienced.
I'd try oiling the bearings.
With the saw unplugged you could try turning the blade to determine if you can feel any "grinding" that would confirm the bearing problem.
Hope this helps.

More $$ generally = better quality, but not always. Many Craftsman tools today are very lightly built. Go to Home Depot and get a Ryobi or Ridgid saw, or Lowe's has Kobalt miter saws. All are at least as well made as Craftsman, and Ridgid comes with a lifetime warranty!
YOU PROBLEPLY WORE OUT THE WORM GEAR.ALWAYS KEEP YOUR BLADES SHARP. I HAVE THE SAME SAW AND THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAD WAS I BROKE THE DUST BAG OFF, MY FAULT.
You may look up to ebay or search on google. I actually order band saw parts with www.bandsawparts.com but I think they don't have the miter gauge for your bandsaw model.
Are you plugged into a GFI receptacle? If so maybe you have to reset the GFI. I would also check for loose wires on the switch or plug and make sure your cord is good.
The motor needs new bearings. These are standard bearings which can be obtained from a motor repair shop via the number on the bearing. There are two of them. This is not a terribly difficult job for someone with experience, but neither is it simple. More info, let me know.
my miter saw has stopped working. i have checked the plug and electrical connection. it worked without problems 2 days ago. it gave no warning of problems. is there "a built in" fuse or circuit breaker?
