Nikon Speedlight SB-800

My SB-800 will not sync with my D-70. The display shows MRPT ARPT BRPT CRPT all the time. The flash will fire when the shutter is released on the camera but it will not sync. It will not flash the when the flash button the back is pressed. None of the select functions work.

Exactly the same problem occurred last night with my SB800. There is just no way you can select the mode and the flash button also doesn't fire the flash.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine and he removed the batteries and left it for 2/3 days. That fixed the problem, so that is what I will do now.

I had the same problem. You locked your flash by mistake if you have a lock symbol on your LCD. Press the ON/OFF & Sel buttons simultaneously & the lock symbol will disappear. Then reset your unit by pressing Mode & ON/OFF simultaneously for 3 second & you are good to go!

The first thing you need to do to correct this problem is to turn your flash on, then push and hold the SEL button.

A menu will come up that will have a picture of two arrows that are shaped like a backwards S (see the picture on the swivel part of the head). These two symbols will be one on top of another with what looks like two flash heads next to it. Move the arrow to select this menu item and hit the SEL button again. On the side menu move the selection to off. Then hit the on/off button and that's it. You should be back to your normal settings.

Hope this helps!

My sb 600 fires with the camera but it seems not illuminate

Definately a settings problem. The camera will only syncronize on one specific speed. Youe best bet is to use auto. For manual, you'll have to set the shutter speed at the sync speed.

Flash Sync Speed
  • up to 1/250 X-Sync Speed
  • up to 1/8000 FP High Speed Sync
  • Red-eye reduction
    Red-eye reduction with slow sync
    Rear-curtain sync
    Slow sync
Front-curtain sync (normal) Flash Sync Modes
  • 1) i-TTL: TTL flash control by 1,005-pixel RGB sensor, built-in flash, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400: i-TTL balanced fill-flash and standard i-TTL flash
    2) AA (Auto Aperture-type) flash: Available with SB-800 used with CPU lens
    3) Non-TTL Auto: Available with Speedlights such as SB-800, 28, 27, and 22S
    4) Range-priority manual flash; available with SB-800 Flash Control

Command mode to fire Speedlight SB-600 remotely from Nikon D40x

Sorry, the D40x does not have a commander mode. You'll need the SB-800 or SB-900 flash or the SU-800 commander. Alternatively, you can use the SC-28 sync cable.

    Hey ljthomp6_30,
I would just reset the flash back to the manufacturers default setting, which is done by pressing the mode button and the on/off button simultaneously for about 2 seconds. Keep in mind this will also reset any custom settings you have. In case you have lost your manual I have included a link to a PDF download of it, and directions on how to reset your flash are on page 12. I hope this helps!
