How do I fix an echo srm 230 weed eater carburetor

the carburetor is clogged. it needs to be cleaned. if it will run on choke that means that it is starving for fuel but if it runs at all it is an easy fix. just take the carburetor apart and clean with carburetor cleaner good and it will run like new. good luck

check for spark when it dies

just bought a new Poulan 25cc 2cycle gas power weed eater . I can start it with the choke on but as soon as put on run it dies.

If it runs with the choke closed then it's not getting enough gas. Check the gas filter on the end of the gas line in the gas tank. Remove the gas cap and using a piece of wire with a hook on the end, reach in the tank and pull the gas line out through the opening. Check the filter on the end of it. You could also have a burst-ed diaphragm in the carburetor. This sucks the gas from the tank to the carb. If that's the case a new weed eater may be in order unless you can find someone with the parts to repair it. Also check the gas lines for leaks or breaks, 2 of them.

Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:

Youwillneed to disassemble the carburetor and spray withcarb.cleaner.Makesure the small screen is free of debris. (Should beable to see daylightthrough it.)

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If the carb. parts are more than 4 years old, you may have to replace them.

2. Carburetor kit replacement

You may need the carburetor adjusted or rebuilt. The other possible item is "bad gas". If the gas has been sitting around longer than 30 days, it may be time to mix up some fresh fuel mixture.

This could be caused by several things such as low compression, bad carburetor, scored cylinder or piston, stuck piston rings, air leak, bad crankcase seals, etc. If a carburetor adjustment does not help and if the carburetor is more than 2 years old, I would put a kit in the carburetor.
