If you do not use the Blower / Vac for Vac you can cut out the the reset switch, it's only when you get foreign material in the impeller using the Vac stopping the motor, I cut out the switch. As you look at the Defond switch (side with writing you see a white wire and a black wire side by side. mark the black wire with a small piece of tape 1-1/2 inches from the connecting lug. Cut all wires off the switch. Strip wires back 3/8 to 1/2 inches. Use heat shrink tubing
and slide it back on the black wire with the tape, same thing thing with the black wires on opposite side of the switch. Use a end to end splice as opposed to a parallel splice because of wire routing space..Splice the white wire with the black with tape, Then the other two black wires. using heat shrink tubing to cover the splice. Good idea to take a picture (smart phone) so as to see wire routing after you separate blower halves, very little wire routing space. Make sure motor is seated in it's nest before joining halves together do not use Vac if you use this fix. Mine works just fine, save $60+ bucks.
Replace the variable speed control with a toggle switch. Cut the 2 power wires that go to the big rotary knob and wire to a toggle switch that you can install by drilling a hole near where the power cable enters. Works great and full power all the time.
Not that I know of. Please take it back immediately if you haven't already. ask them to tag it electrical shock hazard so that no one accidentally uses it and catches ground.7OUT
I am sorry to have to tell you this but the things with small engines and fairly cheap things are not made to be repaired by the ordinary person and it costs too much to take them to an expert.
* Blowers perform the single, simple function of blowing material.
* Blower/vacuum combinations combine the blower function with a vacuum feature. Leaves or debris can be directed into an attached bag, which makes this type of unit great for vacuuming leaves from shrubs. An additional mulching feature is available on some leaf blower/vacuums. Mulched lawn debris can be used in compost piles or bagged for disposal. Most convert easily from blowing to vacuuming mode.
Steve,
Your fan model is HV-18-WR; I have 2 with the same problem. I can't find a source for DYE-3606 switches either. Here is one source for rotary switches; one might be suitable:

I can draw a diagram of how the existing switch is connected, but I don't know how that would translate to a replacement switch.
