SOURCE: Tacsew T500 : Needle continually comes unthreaded

No this machine does not use a bobbin. I just purchased one too and called the supplier to help me keep mine threaded. He said they do not take much tension at all. So check your tension and then when threading it, make sure your thread goes under the bar in the center of the tension disk, not on top of.
Good luck, once you get it going it does a beautiful job!!!! Love it, Love it!

SOURCE: tacsew t111-155 sewing machine skipping stitches

I don't have firsthand knowledge of this machine, but the machines I've used would do this when the thread tension was too high. Check the thread path for any dirt or buildup of fuzz from the thread. Also, check to make sure the thread tension adjustment isn't set too tight. Gently tugging on each thread one at a time may reveal which thread is binding and make your search more efficient. I hope this helps.

DOES THE TACSEW T1718 MACHINE SEW IN A ZIG ZAG

Does it have a Stitch Width control? If not, it is probably a limited stitch only. Most Tacsew machines are made for high speed industrial sewing and frequently are made to perform a limited number of stitches. It appears this is a blindstitch for hemming.

I couldn't find the Brother XL-3520, so I'll just ask here. I noticed that I have a single needle (already attached to machine) and a double needle attachment but I need a thicker needle for...

most domestic sewing machines use 130/705h system needles - buy a pack each of size 70, 80, 90 and 100 to start. if you plan on sewing knits (stretchy) fabrics then buy a couple packs of ball points in size 70 and 80. put in a new needle for each garment you sew as a needle goes blunt in about 6 hours depending on what you are stitching. visit www.sewing.about.com and check out sewing machines 101 and debbie's article on sm needles for more good info. depending on what your heavier weight fabric is you may need to use a 110 size to handle it. the denser the fabric the bigger it needs to be.

Sewing a patch...what type of needle do I use

Always pick the needle type and size according to the fabric that you are sewing. I'm assuming if you are "patching" you might be using an iron on patch product on the underside of the garment and you should try to use a similar weight to the garment's fabric weight to do this.

If you are patching denim for example, you'd use a "denim" needle (teflon blue coating to slide through the fibres better) if you can, probably size 90 or 100. If you don't have a denim needle then just a regular 90 or 100 needle will suffice.

If sewing knits, use a ballpoint needle. For leather and vinyl use a Leather needle, these have a different shaped tip to piece the leather.

Try this link for more good general info on needles http://sewing.about.com/od/sewingmachineindex/ig/Sewing-Machine-Needles/ you might want to print out the section on sewing machine needle sizes and pin up in your sewing room.

My sewing needle selection is over 25 different needle packs and I probably buy 4-6 packs a year to ensure I've got the right size on hand. Change your needle for every new project - a needle stays sharp for about 4-6 sewing hours then should be replaced. If you are hearing squeaking or popping noises, your needle is blunt, chuck it.

WHAT NEEDLES FOR SEWING LEATHER ON A LS 1217

The WEDGE POINT NEEDLE, which is designed for leather and vinyl, easily pierces these fabrics to make a hole that will close back upon itself. This eliminates unattractive holes in the garment, and also reduces the risk of the stitches tearing the fabric. The wedge point needle comes in sizes 11 to 18. The size 11 needle is designed for soft pliable leathers, while size 18 is designed for heavy or multiple layers of leather or vinyl.
