Motorola baby monitors have a manufacture defect on the power button. They have received so many complaints of broken power buttons they actually offer a courtesy replacement past their warranty period. I can not recommend Motorola baby monitors with this defect. Models MBP43 MBP33 etc.

Most portable & laptops with color screens, have screen filters that makes up for this. It sounds like the filter is broken.

We used this monitor for two years with no problems then we also
experienced the same power problem. Using my electronics background I
was able the verify that the problem was with the actual power switch. I
ordered a replacement switch and installed it. The monitor now works
like new again. The switch is available via online electronic
suppliers. The part number I used was a TL2285EE made by E-SWITCH. I
found that it is actually a little bigger then the original and believe
that the original switch is actually a TL2230EE. The bigger switch fit
with a little persuading and should last a little longer but the 2230
would fit much better. This job is not too hard for someone with some
soldering experience.
Good Luck...We love our monitor again (we own two)
