Dear Anonymous,
Please give as much information as possible. The problem may be caused by Hardware; Software; or both! Please describe the problem in detail. What kind of monitor - (screen) - do you have? Is it an old CRT - (Cathode Ray Tube) - or an LCD - (Liquid Crystal Display...?). There are usually buttons on the monitor for setting General display functions, including Brightness/ Contrast etc. Try swapping the monitor with a friend's one that you know works. If the good second one is as dark as...beyond adjustments on the monitor, then that would suggest that the problem lies with the computer video output...What kind of computer do you have? etc., etc.

Lighten the screen by holding down the green diamond key and then holding down the - key. If you go too far, use the + key instead of the - to darken the screen.

To adjust the screen contrast (to lighten screen or to darken it)

Press the [2nd] key and RELEASE it.
Press and HOLD the UP Arrow to darken screen, or
Press and HOLD the DOWN Arrow to lighten it.

Keep pressing the UP or Down arrows (whichever you need to press) until the screen contrast is adequate.

In your case, the screen is too dark, so you must press the DOWN arrow to lighten it.

Press and HOLD Down arrow to lighten.

Lighten screen

while holding the fn key (function) press the f8 key a few times, screen brightness should get brighter with each press. the fn key might be located next to the control key lower right corner of keyboard.

When I turn the calculator on, I get a black screen. It won't go away.

Most likely the screen contrast is too high. Try to lighten screen
Press [2nd] key and release it
Press and Hold [DownArrow] until screen lightens to your liking.

As you keep pressing DownArrow, the top right corner shows a number that decreases as the screen lightens.

Hi,
The screen contrast of the TI83Plus/TI84Plus/TI84PLUS SE can be adjusted to suit the user. Sometimes after the batterie have been replaced the screen contrast is reset to the factory defaults.
To adjust it to your liking.

Press the [2nd] key and release it.
Press and hold the Down Arrow key to lighten the screen or the UP arrow to darken it.

In your case, the screen is too dark, so in step 2 above you press and hold the Down arrow until the screen lightens enough.

what u have to do is when u are going to take the picture click on the little lightening bolt next to the func. set button. 2 pictures will pop up- one of a lightening bolt and another with a lightening bolt with a slash through it. hit the lightening bolt button again and it will select the slashed lightening bolt picture. this will turn flash off to turn it back on go back to the screen with the 2 bolts the same way but press the button with the flower to the right of the func. set button.
