Note: most remotes allow you to find the code by manually turning the TV (or other device) on first, then press the appropriate button (cable, DVD, surround, etc) then setting the the remote in the "program" mode, then keep pushing the "off/power" button until the TV (or other device) turns off, at that point the code is set.

Can't get my VCR to work

It sounds like you need to purchase a converter box from a place like Radio Shack. This box converts the signal so that your televison understands. I think this box is around $20.00. Just call Radio Shack our a place like walmart and tell them what is going on and they will fix you up. Then you can use channels 3 or 4. I hope this helps!

Guide plus

Are you sure this isn't coming from the tv (is it an RCA or GE?) and NOT the vcr? Either way you would access it in the Menu under Setup or Initial Setup.

Not a good signal

You may have a connection problem, particularly check the cable which goes from VCR output to TV input. The RF signal is carried on the center conductor of the coax cable. If you look at the end of the coax, you will see this center wire. If this wire is substantially recessed (too short) or bent over, then it might not make contact with the connection of the VCR tuner out or TV in. Try a different interconnection cable. If problems still remain with this substitute cable, when you have things all hooked up, try moving the cabling from side to side, and see if the picture quality changes substantially. Another possibility is the tuner in the VCR is defective. If so, repair is not economical- replace the VCR.

Recording instructions

First, whether or not you can do this will depend on cable box useage, and how the VCR is hooked up. In the earlier days of cable TV, & off-air reception, this was a simple task. If you have a satellite receiver box or cable box which is used to tune the channel, rather than using the TV itself or the VCR tuner, then recording one channel while watching another may not be possible. While I don't know the capabilities of newer sat/cable boxes, older ones sent just one signal out to the external equipment (TV etc.) That one signal (channel) is all that is available. If you received a manual with the sat/cable box, see if it says anything about this issue. That being said- if you don't use a sat/cable box, but instead use your TV or VCR to select the channel you are watching, then assuming the VCR is hooked up inline with the TV, just setting the VCR/TV option to TV will pass all channels through to the TV, and you can then use the TV to select whatever channel wished, while the VCR is recording something else. Hopefully I haven't confused you. If another contributor has some additional info on the capabilities of sat/cable boxes of today, please read their contribution.
