Inspect drain hose for clog. There may be a check valve in it to prevent water from reentering the machine. I found a piece of a stainless steel scrub pad in mine. It would drain, but not completely. Remove the hose & run water thru it to test.

SOURCE: Dishwasher will not spray water from arms

Check for utensils or pot handles that may be hanging below the bottom rack and interfering with motion of spray head.
Clean holes with toothpick.
Check temperature at hot water faucet with meat thermometer. If below 120°F (49°C), turn up thermostat on hot water heater.

SOURCE: GE Dishwasher is not draining water

GE Prifile dishwashers have a valve called a "Piston" and an "O" -Ring under the screen that become degraded over time. The part is around $10 and it takes about an hour to do the repair. You can do this yourself if you are handy and have some simple tools. You can go to the GE website and get a free owners manual.

SOURCE: dishwasher won't drain properly

there are several possible causes for your trouble. begin by disconnecting the drain hose at both ends and checking to be sure it is not partially blocked. Then check the pump to be sure there is no chunk of glass or other debris partially blocking it.

SOURCE: GE Profile Dishwasher does not drain. model #

I had a similar problem with a GE GSD5811 model. The hoses were clear, and the auxiliary pump worked fine. It turns out that it was the "piston" assembly that had basically disintegrated over time. This part diverts water to the pump during the drain cycle.

To check it, remove the mesh filter at the rear of the inside of the machine, by carefully unclipping the heater element from the back of the machine and removing the 4 hex-head screws securing the filter panel.) Unscrew the piston assembly from the tub, and pull it out. If the sealing plunger has deteriorated or is jammed, replace it. The part number for the "piston and nut assembly" for my machine (and probably numerous others) is WD24X10018. It should cost anywhere between $10 and 16, depending on where you shop.

Another possibility is a bad drain solenoid. (This is what actually triggers the piston assembly during the drain cycles.)

SOURCE: brand-new GE GLDT690 Dishwasher. Installed. Runs

Hi,

Disconnect the drain hose from the disposal. Try to put a screw drive into the disposal from where the dishwasher was hooked to. The is a plug in the disposal that has to be knocked out in order to hook the hose up to it.If it is draining, then it has to be disposal.Check the knock out plug as well.

If you have followed the correct procedure and still the dishwasher is not draining, more often it is faulty pump. You might need to call the manufacturer and get it replaced. There could be few reasons like short screen and other, that has to be taken care by the manufacturer.

Be advise, as the unit is under warranty, do not try to open the dishwasher as it could VOID the warranty.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

My dishwasher will not drain. Have not installed a new garbage disposal or new dishwasher. Just all the sudden stopped working

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Dishwasher not draining properly or not draining at all issues can arise due to different reasons. Usually, these issues are related to kinked hoses, knocked out disposer unit (if connected with the dishwasher drain hose) & clogged drain pump & filter.

Also note that dishwashers do not drain completely after a finished cycle and this is normal. Dishwashers are designed to leave some water in the unit to ensure that the heating element doesn’t overheat. If you suddenly begin to experience a large amount of water being retained in your dishwasher, you have a problem. Some of the most common reasons include that the drain hose isn’t working properly, the drain pump isn’t working correctly, or possibly there is a plumbing problem in your home’s drain lines.

First check whether the drain is not clogged or blocked and the line is not kinked. Check all the hoses for blockages & also clean the air gap. Has the disposer been replaced recently? If so, chances are the knockout is still in place. Simply remove the drain hose from the disposer, and knock out the plug. If the disposer has not been replaced, try removing the drain hose from the disposer and use a wet-dry vacuum (prepared for water, of course) to **** any water (and hopefully anything else) from the drain line. Then reconnect the hose, and test the unit. If you have checked the air gap and the drain hose and can’t locate the problem, then it is an issue with the drain pump of the dishwasher.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

GE DISWASHER - PDW7300J00WW- WATER STANDING IN BASE OF UNIT - WATER DOESN'T DRAIN. CHECKED HOSE TO DISPOSAL AND TO UNIT IT IS FREE OF OBSTRUCTIONS? wHAT NEXT?

Check the following to address this issue--

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Will not drain..its brand new!

If your dishwasher was installed by a vendor, call them and have them repair the problem. If it's new as you say, you should have a warranty.

If it was installed by others, then make sure all hoses and drain fittings are correctly installed and not kinked. Also, I have seen situations where a dishwasher was installed after the fact and the plug on the sink drain spur that connects to the dishwasher drain was not removed, blocking the drain port.

GE dishwasher, model #gsd4000j00bb, won't drain.

I just posted the soloution that I found for this problem to another question. I found a bone stuck in the impeller of the discharge pump. Requires that you pull the unit out turn it on its side (rather messy and everything needs to get disconected as if you were going to remove the unit from the house and install a new one). Find the discharge pump and remove the cover (I pulled a 2.5" rib bone chip) remove the blockage, button everything back up, hook it all up slide it back in and now mine works.

Our dishwasher, GE model # GSD4800, installed in Oct.'03,is emitting a bad odor. We do have a GE disposer, but there are no odors or problems with that appliance. I am not sure if the DW drains thru the...

There is nothing within the construction of a dishwasher that can cause bad odours.

If your dishwasher smells it can only be the result of food debris left within the appliance because of a poor or faulty house drainage system, incorrect installation of the dishwasher drain hose or some sort of blockage in the drain pump (see Dishwasher Will Not Drain). Less likely is a problem with the water supply.

It is a good idea to run a dishwasher cleaner through the appliance every three months or so. You can find these in most supermarkets, usually in the same area that other dishwasher products are displayed. Make sure that you also clean and wipe the edges of the door and the door seal, especially at the bottom of the door.
