I assume from your description, that you have to use Chrome as your version of IE isn't capable of accessing the Halifax banking website.
This is likely to be due to your version of Internet Explorer being too old.
Try updating it - Free from those nice Microsoft people.
Or if this is not possible - I would just install the Firefox browser
