There's a flashing light on my dashboard, it's an orange light outline of my Beetle with a key in it. Please can you tell me what this means?

You need a regular service done what that is depends on miles on odometer..

Hi, has the weather just turned colder? The Beetle has a blue warning light to tell you that the engine temperature is low. Meaning drive the car at lower speeds/revs until it's warmed up and the light go's out. Hope that helps, Matt.

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

I would have to say it is the anti-theft light since it only flashes after you lock the doors which if this is that is normal,shows system is armed. However when looking through the owners manual on a 2003 model it shows it as THEFT and not a key,2002 shows the same,however 2004 shows a lock. The only thing I see that even closely resembles a key is the temp warning indicator.

Check all your light bulbs and their sockets (for corrosion)

This light is telling you that you have an Airbag Problem. You might want to Locate a Mechanic and have this Checked out. This is not something that you want to try and fix yourself as the AirBags could go off and Cost a Lot more to have the Dah and Sterring Wheel Replaced. Get the steering wheel to move even just a little bit and it will unlock.

It sounds like your low oil level light is on. Do you have an owners manual. If so look it up in there and it will tell you what the light is.
