Hi;

Any local electronics store can sell you the USB cable - make sure you get the mini-size connector on the end for your GPS (take the GPS into the store to be certain). The go to garmin.com and see what you want to purchase.

But - BEWARE! The garmin.com site will be glad to sell you map updates (for a ridiculously high price) that might not fit. Might be better off buying the maps on an SD card. I'm struggling right now with the Lifetime NA update for the nuvi 200W; can't get the entire map to fit, even though the original map purchased with the unit in Jan 2008 had all of NA. (can anyone help with this? I've tried all the obvious - deleting waypoints, languages, updating firmware, etc. Really bugs me!

APPLICATION INTELLNAV.EXE HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL

Was the SD map card specifically designed for your GPS model number?

You'll want to double check since map cards are not universal. Even if you load updated IntelliNav maps onto an SD card, it usually just crashes.

How do I update my GPS map database for a Nextar X3-08

Go to www.nextar.com. At the bottom right of the homepage there is a link:2009 Maps Update Available". Click it and you will be asked to pay 69.99 USD for a one-time map upgrade. "No internet necessary" - I think they send you a new SD card loaded with the new maps.

Tom tom Western european map

This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card
  • Connect the device to your computer.
  • Open the TomTom Home application.
  • Click on 'Update My Device'.
This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you updat.

I need to install map update 2009 data card

If the map is on a SD card, just plug it into the SD slot on the side of your Nuvi with the power OFF. Then turn on your Nuvi and at the main menu, press the wrench symbol, then the map icon and then "map info". Uncheck your old 2008 map and check your 2009 map and you should be ready to go.

GARMIN 510 2009 MAPS

I'm quite sure you need to purchase the 2009 City Navigator SD card to update the maps. That what I did last year to get the 2008 City Navigator maps. You will need to leave the SD card in the unit to use the new maps though..

I haven't been able to determine whether it's possible to update the actual install map on the device. I'm guessing it's possible but would require a computer and an map update to write directly to the device. If I find steps to update the installed maps, I will post them here.

WHAT IS SD CARD FOR??

Hello TRICOUNTY,

Your Garmin GPS has an SD card slot. You can use this slot to insert a removeable SD memory card into the unit SD memory cards for used for storage by many portable devices. The most common useage for the GPS is to view pictures taken by a digital camera (which also uses an SD card) with the GPS's picture viewer function.

I am not sure what the ads you are referring to are. Where are you seeing the ads? On the GPS screen? After inserting a SD card into the GPS?

Best Regards,
Ken

Map loading from SD card

Yes go to the Lowrance web site and down load the fix to a sd card , put the sd card in the i finder and it will update it automaticlly. I have not done it for map create 7.0 but have for map create 6.3. On the web site look under suport or downloads and you should find it. There is also a lot of free lake maps that you can download to sd card also. Good luck

Putting maps on sd memory card

(Untried)
For C330 owners that want to have both Canada and US 2008 map update on their GPS this is what you have to do.

Must have:
1 - Street pilot C330

2 - 512mb SD card
3 - SD card reader of some form (some cameras will suffice)
4 - Garmin 2008 Map Update North America

What to DO:

1 - connect the GPS to the computer
2 - Insert the Map update disk
3 - Install the Lower 48 states, United States
(Reason - the C330 has around 1000mb of memory and the "US 48 states" map uses around 900mb" while Canada uses 400mb...which is why you will need that 512mb SD card later)

4 - Once the GPS is updated with the US map. Browse the Map update disk contents. This can be done with going to "My Computer" right click on your CD/DVD drive and click on "Explore"

5 - Open the folder called "img"

6 - Copy the file called "gmappromU.img" file is around 430mb. (This is the map file for Canada)

7 - Insert your SD card into your card reader and connect it to your computer. A window should pop up. If not you should see it on your "My Computer"

8 - Once you have navigated your way into the SD card directory. Create a folder on the SD card named "garmin" (no caps)

9 - Go into your newly created "garmin" folder right click and paste the "gmappromU.img" file. (This may take upto 20 to 30 mins)

10 - Once the process is complete, Rename the "gmappromU.img" file to --> "gmapsupp.img" (watch for spelling, no caps at all)

11 - Remove the SD card, Turn off your GPS, Insert SD card into GPS.

12 - Turn on GPS, let it load, and there you have it, the FULL North America Map.

When you are searching a state or province (depending where you are located) it will give you an option which map to use, Canada/Alaska or the lower 48 US states. Select your map and you are set to Go.
