SOURCE: NO USB WORKING

I have a P4P800-MX motherboard given to me by a friend who upgraded his desktop, it also has the USB problem. Unfortunately this is a known issue, I read numerous posts on a few forums, may have been the ASUS site itself detailing the problem. A few P4P800-MX owners had returned more than one board while it was still under warranty. The best solution was to buy a USB 2.0 PCI card and and not use the on board ports.  A few owners mentioned that devices connected to the faulty ports became damaged so I'd really recommend not using the on-board USB ports.

SOURCE: Asus P4p800 se Mainboard USb Ports not working

it would seem that you are not the only one with this problem with the USB's, the only soloution i have found that people say works is to reset the cmos (remove motherboard battery without any power cord attached) for 10 mins, or, go into the bios and reset to default/optomised defaults

hope this helps

kind regards

SOURCE: USB 2 PORTS NOT ALL WORKING properly on ASUS p5gdc-v deluxe

I thnik the Front USB ports are only Ver. 1.1. as to the ports at the back are ver. 2.O. so it does not read the external drive. this is hardware config. you might not be able to fix this.

Usb device not recognized, works only when plugged on hub

All PCs provides power supply via USB port. The power is controlled by electronic circuit. Sometimes when overloaded the circuit burns out (the last controlling transistor, actually). This does not prevent the data communication, because it is separated circuit. But if the device is not powered it cannot communicate. When you plug the USB device to powered USB hub, then all go right.
Are you able to use the USB ports with other USB-powered devices like USB sticks, mouses, cameras? If not, the mentioned circuit is burned out. If they work OK, then your internal USB hub provides less power current than needed. In both cases there is nothing to do. The circuit resides on the mainboard of the laptop and replacement is expencive. Use it with that external USB hub you have.
