I replaced the fuel filter on my 2006 Ford Tarus, but it will start sometimes and others it will not. Cranks, but never starts
Even though you replaced the fuel filter , it still passes dirt through the filtration system , so what i recommend is 2cups of acetone 1 cup for 1/2 a tank of fuel and if its full then two cups , this solution will clean your fuel injectors , if you use those advertised chemicals that clean fuel injector , those have a chemical varnish which causes to gum up ,but i assure you acetone is pure alcohol and it will not harm your engine , you will see an improvement in your fuel milage as well .

Do you have the "firing order" correct? In other words, is each spark plug wire going to the same cylinder it was on before you changed the plugs? If you have done nothing else but changed the plugs then this is the most likely problem.
If when you try to start the car it backfires through the exhaust or backfires through the intake. Then this " IS" the problem. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2004 ford tarus wont start but cranks over... fuel pump or filter?
It could be a fuel system concern. I would check the fuel pressure with a gauge. You can check the fuel pump by sound.. if its coming on. Have someone turn the key to the run postion and listen near the fuel tank to hear a slight whine noise that will last about 3 sec. If you hear a noise..thats a good sign that power is getting to the pump...but the pump still could be faulty. If you hear nothing..its probably the pump. If you think its the fuel filter...just replace it...that's the best way to see if its the filter.
