My Viking 950 won't sew or thread a bobbin, this has never happeed before, am I missing something?

The foot control will only move the bobbin holder (the threading area on the side) a little then stop. I also cannot get the machine to sew when I press the foot control. I have checked all power connections. The machine is on.

There is a lever on the bobbin winder which needs to be shifted back or the knob for cranking the machine into position needs to be pushed or retracted back so it would engage the machine and not the bobbin winder.

How to wind a bobbin for a 250 electronic Viking Husqvarna machine

Make sure that the presser foot is raised if you are winding a bobbin with the top thread threaded through the needle. Place the bobbin on the spool spindle with the mark (a stylized H) outwards. Bring the bobbin spindle down. Next pull the thread from the needle under the presser foot to the thread guide on the right. Bring the thread above the bobbin and wrap the thread around the bobbin several times. Cut off the excess thread on the thread knife and step on the foot control to wind the bobbin. When the bobbin winding is finished, remove the bobbin from the spindle. Cut the thread to separate the bobbin thread from the needle thread. Move the bobbin spindle up.

How to set bottom and top thread center of material

It sounds like you are trying to balance the top and bobbin thread so it locks perfectly. If so, this is accomplished by balancing the thread "tension". If you see loops on the underside of the fabric, tighten (increase) the tension. If loops for on the top, lower the tension.

If the fabric is puckering: reduce the stitch length AND you may need to use a finer needle along with finer thread in the bobbin and on top.

Presser foot pressure is rarely adjusted, unless sewing with extremely variable fabrics. For example, pressure is lowered when sewing with silk chiffon as it transports easily under the presser foot (and to prevent damage to the fragile fabric). Whereas pressure is increased when sewing with tent canvass to allow the feed dogs to be able to 'grip' and move the fabric.

the bobbin case does not move, just the bobbin.. if the machine is still under warrenty, I would take it back & get another sewing machine,, and probably not from them

I bought my daughter a White sew E-Z so she can have fun on her first sewing machine. However there is no manual and no instructions on how to thread the bobin. the bobin just sits on its flat side to go...

Unlike some machines this one doesn't really need the bobbin threaded. Place the bobbin in the bobbin holder and leave about 5" of thread extended out from the bobbin holder. With the bobbin compartment still open, lower the presser foot and turn the handwheel to move the threaded needle through the stitch cycle. (I find holding the threads helps; normally, you'll feel them pulling under your fingers.) When the needle has returned to the top of the path, lift the presser foot. Then pull both threads around to the front (the bobbin thread should wrap around the top thread). Then move the threads to the back of the presser foot.

If the needle isn't catching the bobbin thread, first try a new needle (bent or dull needles don't always function properly). Next check the bobbin holder for nicks or other damage. There is a small hook on the bobbin holder that should be where the top and bottom threads intertwine. Under rare circumstances, you will find that the bobbin tension of the bobbin holder is misadjusted. This can interfere with the bobbin thread twisting properly. There is a little set screw that allows you can tighten or loosen the bobbin tension as needed. Adjusting the screw is to be avoided when possible and done in small increments (1/8 turn) if needed. It's easy to strip the threads for the set screw and end up needing to replace the bobbin holder.

If you can hear a click then I'd say the needle is touching some part of the hook mechanics which could mean timing is out. However, it is possible that the bobbin case has just moved a little so as first trouble shooting steps, I'd suggest the following:

clean out the bobbin holder area as per manual (ie. remove the needle plate, bobbin, sewing foot and needle, take out the bobbin holder, clean the race area out, then put bobbin holder back in as per your manual, there is usually a stopper and knob or two red marks to line up. This is held by a magnet so it is possible to knock it out of place during a jam up.

Replace needle plate, bobbin, sewing foot and put in a new sharp needle, flat shank to the back and make sure it is fully up into the holder, thread up and very slowly using the needle up and down button, test sew a couple of stitches again.

If no stitch formation or you can definitely hear/see something touching then I'd say timing is out and no, its not something fixed yourself; best left to a trained technician.

I tried to change the position of the zipper foot and ended up breaking the needle and now the bobbin thread keeps snapping when I try to sew. What should I do to fix this problem?

There could be a couple of general reasons for this to happen.
First, the tension in the bobbin holder could have tightened when you were trying to fix the needle. I don't explain them, I just know strange things happen when you try to fix one thing.
Secondly, I can't tell how old your machine it, but I know that the mechanism that holds the bobbin holder can become jammed and the thread wound around it. That too will cause the bobbin to not feed properly. You need to be sure the area around the bobbin holder is clear of all threads.
How did you try to change the position of the zipper foot? Did you just change the needle position and move the foot to the other side or did you do something else? I'd need to have more information to tell you anything more specific.

Viking 1: where is the bobbin control, my bobbin is loose...

The bobbin spool is loose, the bobbin case is loose or the bobbin stitches are loose??????

If it is the last one - thread the machine with the presser foot up and see if this resolves the issue.

The bobbin thread on my Viking Designer 1 is too tight

In most cases, this is caused by loose threads and fluff being in the upper tension unit rather than a problem with the bobbin. There is a screw on the bobbin case that losens and tightens the resistence. However, it can easily come out and then you have a mess.

Try this to check the bobbin thread tension -
Take the bobbin case holder out of the machine. Use a bobbin that is about half full and use standard 50 wt sewing thread.
Take your needle plate (the metal plate over the feed dogs that has markings showing stitch width under the presser foot).
Thread the bobbin thread in the bobbin case, holding the case so that the thread is through the tension spring as though it is in the machine, tied the end of the tread to the needle plate and have it hang below the the bobbin case.
If the needle plate immediately drops to the floor, unwinding the bobbin, the bobbin tension is too loose. If you jiggle the bobbin case slightly up and down and the needle plate moves slightly down, it is just right. If it does not move at all it is too tight. The resistence should be 14g which is the weight of the needle plate.

The upper tension unit, look straight down from the tension unit and you should see some metal disks which the upper thread rides through when threaded. Take your small cleaning brush and brush out any loose threads/fluff there. Look down the left side of the tension unit to make sure there is none hiding.

When you tighten the upper tension unit by pushing the tension buttons on the screen, do you hear the tension disks tightening? If not, it may be the pc board or the tension unit itself that will have to be replaced.

Otherwise, you might want to take it to an authorized husqvarna viking dealer for service. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Bobbin holder won't stay put

If the bobbin case/holder is trying to lift up and the thread is staying partly around it, your bobbin case may have turned part way.
Remove the needle plate and the bobbin case. The outer edges of the bobbin case should be very smooth. I suspect you may see a needle hole in the flat area that was under the foot. If so, you will probably wish to take it to your dealer and show them. They may smooth it or recommend replacing it. When the bobbin case is placed back into the hook cup that it sets in, the retainer at the 11 o'clock position on it should only allow the case to lift up about 0.8 to 1mm at the most. If it will lift up more than this, press down firmly on the retainer and move it closer to the bobbin case. You must have enough room for the thread to pass between the retainer and the bobbin case, but too much clearance will allow the bobbin case to turn in the machine and it will be damaged by the needle.

Fabric stuck when sewing

Several things could be happening. It may be the hook/needle timing. Or it could be the feeddogs are not moving (that's the toothy looking part under the presser foot that moves the fabric). Recommend removing thread and bobbin (needle and presser foot). Slowly move the handwheel and put your finger on top of the feeddogs to determine if they are moving back and forth and are high enough to move the fabric. Check to make sure you had not manually lowered the feed dogs. You may need to take it to an authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer for their assistance.
