I've got Braun kf 140 as a gift. I dont know whether the par inside is a filter or space compensator. How does the compensator look like? Can I buy it? Where?

I have the same problem and even though I was able to disassemble the unit + get to the heating element, I fear I won't ever find a replacement part. Element is def bad; checked w/ohm meter across element - OPEN. Like everything else we buy, coffee makers are throwaways when they fail so no one sells repair parts. SAD!
You can order from amazon. Usually ship in 1 day. I'm very satisfied.
But, Brita filters are not the only filters on the market. There are better Brita alternative filters.

We are replacing a Braun KF 145 that's about 8 yrs old.
We had a similar problem that was solved by taking care with the coffee filter basket. Always close the basket firmly in place before you place the carafe in position. The overflow problem only occurred when we placed the carafe first and then closed the filter basket.
