Actually -- This may seem drastic, but I drilled a hole in the battery lid, and another in the camera case itself. I use a "bread tie twisty" or "zip tie" after changing the battery's. Crude -- but works. Would still like to find a door.Actually -- This may seem drastic, but I drilled a hole in the battery lid, and another in the camera case itself. Those lids have a small lock that maintains them closed. Obviously the one in your camera is broken. They also have a switch that shuts energy of when they are open. Take to a qualified service in order to replace the broken part.
A repair is unlikely without parts, It also depends weather its the part that is actually broken is on the battery cover or the camera itself.
If the camera itself a new case for the camera will be required if the battery cover then a new cover will be needed.
to obtain the spares you have two routes,
a) contact the manufacturer (contact details should be in the manual or on the gtee card)
b) buy a faulty camera from somewhere like ebay and use it for parts
I have a broken battery cover on my Olympus Camedia C-370 zoom digital camera.
Would you let me know, where I can obtain a replacement. I live in SW France.
Hi,
I am in the same position with broken battery covers. A local camera shop has been ordering replacements for me. They said the battery cover from Nikon fits the Vivitar but this can only be ordered from an authorized dealer. Try a local camera store.
Hope this helps
Lynn
I got to say not all cameras are good but maby but look for a camera cable from harvey normanes or smith city other than that just try gigling around with the cable end
First, replacement battery covers may be obtained from dealers in the USA - I got mine from San Diego Camera Solution who list the item on eBay. Haven't found a UK outlet, but I guess Leung's at Goodmayes would offer a repair service if you don't fancy DIY.
(Disclaimer that I have no connection with either company).
Not sure what Canon recommend, but the easiet way (worked for me) does not involve stripping the camera down. If you dissemble the old and new battery covers via the three little cross-point screws (see warning), then it is possible to replace the new cover around the original hinge assembly.
The advantage of this method - aside from not opening the camera - is that there are "spares" the bits that will get dropped (spring and screws) so that there is less time wasted trying to find them while effecting the repair!
The trickiest part is the sprung loaded latch, which must be installed with the spring partly compressed. Beware when first taking the covers apart and especially when refitting, because the spring will do its utmost to escape.
If you're handy, you can replace it in about 3 minutes. Don't attempt it unless you're willing to risk tearing a thin flexible circuit under the rear cover. Looking at the camera from the rear, remove the screws on the right hand side ( 2 ? ) then the screws across the bottom - open the card door, remove the card, and wedge a knife blade between the front and rear cover halves - the card door will be loose with an attached spring coming free. No need to remove the rear housing completely, just enough to expose the tracks for the battery cover hinge. Remove the old door, noting the position of the opening spring at the hinge, by angling one hinge out first. Insert the new battery cover and the card door in reverse order.
