Hi,

Touch tools > settings > language > voice.

Voice- changes the language for voice promts.

Languages noted with a persons name are (tts)
text to speak voices. ( ie: American English Jill ) will speak

which have an extensive vocabulary and pronounce
the street names as you approach turns.

Regards
Richard.

A have a Garm nuvi 255WT that is supposed to include spoken street names. It speaks well enough, in any language I want, but it only tells me when to turn left, right, etc. It never includes the street...

You need to make sure that the voice you have chosen is a Text to Speech voice (it will say TTS next to it). These voices will speak the street names. The others will not. See if this helps.

How do make the gps announce the street name to

Neither the Nuvi 250W nor the Nuvi 205W have Text to Speech (which is the feature that allows the unit to speak the street names), so you cannot make yours speak street names. I'm sorry.

My garmin 750 doesn't identify the streets that i should be turning at.Just tells me distance when to turn.

Do you mean it is not speaking the street names? Have you selected a voice that uses the Text-to-speach (TTS) feature? From the main screen press, "Tools", then "Settings", then "Language." Next to the voices that will speak street names, you will see the (TTS) designation. Press one of these and the unit should tell you the street names.

Help - my Garmin 260W no longer announces street names. How can I get this feature to reactivate????

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts (i.e. 'Turn Right in 500 feet') as well as 'text-to-speech' voices that speak street names. If one of the basic types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
In order to change this setting, please follow these steps:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench Icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Touch Language*
  4. Touch on the blue rectangle that corresponds with Voice
  5. Touch on a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Touch Ok
The voice has now been changed.

If this is not what you meant, please reply with further details. If you found the solution resolved your issue, kindly take a moment to award this a Fixya rating in appreciation of my efforts.

Thank you.

Gamin nuvi 260W - Cannot set to text-to-voice.

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have text-to-speech (speak street names) are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (example: "Turn Right in 500 feet"). If one of these pre-recorded voices has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.
To change the voice prompt to spoken street names:
  1. Touch Tools (Wrench icon) from the Main Menu
  2. Touch Settings*
  3. Select Language or Locale
  4. Touch the Voice language option
  5. Select a voice option that includes a person's name (ex. Emily) or TTS. Options without a name or the TTS label will say the distance until the next turn, but will not include the street name.
  6. Select OK
The device should now speak street names.
*Note: The Setting option is not required on all nuvi units.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. – I would greatly appreciate a FixYa! rating if the solution I provided fixed or helped you resolve your problem.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Garmin StreetPilot c340 settings

In order to get the unit to speak out street names, you have to have selected a voice that has a (TTS) next to it. This stands for Text-to-Speech. Press the button that looks like a wrench at the bottom of the main screen. Then press the button that looks like a pair of lips. You should see a menu with language and voice choices. Make sure you see the (TTS) next to the one you choose. The unit should then speak the name of the streets for you.

Speaking the names of major streets

It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.

WON'T SPEAK STREET NAMES

Greetings Seecar,
I had the same problem with the TomTom One. What you need to do is this:
When you select a voice preference you have to use a "computer" voice as it seems the "human" voice cannot pronounce the street names. I don't know if your model has the same choices but mine is set to "Samantha, English US"
Hope this helps
