If you are talkinh about unhooking the shifting rod from the lower unit, it might be behind a small plat held on with 2 screws on the side of the motor towards the bottom (casing that the lower unit dropped out of) or look uo in the housing , you should see how it is connected, usually a small bolt

it needs fluid added. had a 70 johnson do the same, I saw no leaks but it was low on fluid, put some in and have had noproblems yet.
