My toshiba satellite A215-S4697 laptop won't start up. When you push the power button, the power LED lights up on the front and it sounds like the cd is trying to run and the light on the cd blinks and there is also a couple of low beeps but nothing else comes on or lights up. I have tried this with the battery in and out, taking out and reinstalling the memory modules, tried just one or the other installed, used two different power sources(they both work on a different Toshiba laptop)yet no success.

It sounds like the motherboard is bad. There is no power being sent to the fan and that means that somewhere in the the mother board is not sending the info.

it sounds like a hardware problem. I would say your high voltage board that drives your lcd has blown probably the caps you buy new on-line and replace it. send to factory service to have fixed. get fixed on warranty if you have it.

SOURCE: Will not boot up

this is motherboard hardware issue
1) first all you need take out all devices like HDD DVD, wireless card then try turn it on if noting yet
2) change RAM stick that you have done
3) check DC PWM standby status, like 3V/5V/1.8V which should be appear before power on.
if no 3V/5V DC output, check this PWM circuite like MOSFET or PWM chip.
if you find 3V/5V, so need check 1.8V DC output and 1.2V that chip fail also cause nothing turn on.
all steps need diagram check where the chips and componenets on your board.

Did the computer ever work? Have you checked that your memory is properly seated? Remove the bottom plate that reveals the memory modules, pop both loose then back in. Try to restart. Is the battery fully seated?

Have you tried attaching an external monitor when the LCD screen is disconnected from the motherboard? this connector is located under the keyboard strip – a piece of plastic just above the keyboard.
If it works, this way, then the video cable isn’t seated properly in the connector on the back of the screen. Plugging the video cable back in should fix the problem.
I don’t know how comfortable you are with taking apart laptops but I think that this information could be useful for you.
