You can find a part diagram and parts list on-line. Just enter the model #. The variable speed control module is no longer available. You can bypass the control, and connect the router directly. You will no longer be able to control the speed, or turn off the router. I used a variable 15A control box instead. It will function the same way.
You may want to just replace the router with a new up-to date router, I just purchased a 2 1/2HP Skil router kit tah has a 1/2 chuck, and both a plunger base a flat base, for $100 at a big box store.

Try to start it at various speeds. Use contact cleaner on the switch, and the variable speed control resistor.

i'm afraid you have to replace the switch...

the variable switch had 5 connection points on it, i bridged the connection on the 2 outer points with insulated wire,pretty much to see what would happen, this worked,
as this will be a router fitted to a table i will at some point remove the wire and
attach a 5way rotary switch, used for guitar electrics and mount it
into a electrical switch casing,

it happens to me also, always cutting off the signal, i just bought new one other brand and it works fine
