I have a 2003 Craftsman LT1000 with a Briggs 18 hp engine. It works great considering the terrain I mow. I need to know how to level the deck on the mower.

If you have the owners/operators manual that came with the mower, it will have instructions on how to LEVEL the mower deck. That sounds like your problem. Deck wheels would greatly help also by stabilizing the deck so it doesn't bounce and "float" so much while mowing.
First If you have a flat spot cement floor drive the mower onto the cement then drop the deck to mow Shut power down and engage blade mechanism, next get a tape measure and measure on one side the the other on the from and rear corners is the deck level? if not look at what might be causing it to be out of alignment. if it is level all away around then there may be a problem with the blade. check the side that is doing what your saying see if it is level or angled upwards in the front or back, if the deck is not level you should be able to figure out what is causing it. thanks for using fix ya and if you need more help just post what you found.
It needs to be leveled. Level it from side to side and front to back, then drop the front 1/4" lower than the rear. The hangers holding the deck in place are adjustable.
A few more things to check.
1. The oil level. If the oil level is low the oil level sensor will ground the ignition.
2. Check the wiring from the seat safety switch to make sure it is connected.
3. Follow the black wires from the ignition control module to make sure none of them are chaffing and do not have a chassis ground.
If you still have problems disconnect ONE lead from the oil level sensor and see if you have spark. Most of the time these oil level sensors are the common failure.
could put a inline shut off valve in the fuel line and shut it off when you finish or fix it right? .
you need to replace the float the needle valve and seat ( the part that the needle valve pushes against to stop the gas inlet maintained by float level.
You need to find you engine mod# type# code# code is not important
look on overhead valve covers for these #s they are right in line wherever you find the #s if its an overhead valve engine
go to partstree.com and find briggs logo and click on it and enter your #s or choose from the ones they give and match them with yours and you should be able to find the part numbers you need for this carb.and get them locally or order from them.
maybe this will help cure your issue
the engine is getting to hot or the oil level is to low check to make sure the engine is getting the air that it needs while running they have air vents in hood as well as on sides of most of those tractors or i would mow for a while & put in a cool place to cool down if i can further help e-mail me wade at [email protected]
