Advent T100 Repair Manual

BIOS access is typically achieve by pressing a function key during bootup. Most common keys are f1,f2,and f8, but your specific laptop may use a different key. Just try one at a time during a bootup until one works for your laptop. Don't worry, you won't hurt anything pressing a wrong key.

Try pressing the "delete" key once a second as you turn the computer on.

If the display isn't going full screen, on that 15.4 inch TFT LCD screen, the problem is the screen Inverter, or LCD screen itself.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is the screen Inverter.
It isn't a simple screen resolution setting that needs to be changed.

It needs an additional light source.
The additional light source is a Backlight.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
The Advent 7111 Notebook PC uses One CCFL,

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

(Average size is 2mm Thick. Length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height. 2mm is close to 1/16th of an Inch )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

I don't have access to a Service Manual, for the Advent 7111 Notebook PC. I haven't had one come to my shop for repair.

I DO have years of experience at repairing laptops, and I see the Advent 7111 is just a basic laptop, as I HAVE repaired over the years.

If you wish, I can guide you step by step, in replacing the screen Inverter.

(MANY people go out, and buy an LCD screen, when the problem is a much less expensive screen Inverter. Afterwards they buy the screen Inverter. Too bad they didn't come here first)

According to the source, you should see TW3M on the bottom of the laptop.

Some "small" computer-stores sell computer-parts on "consignment". So, go to one of those stores -- they may have an LCD screen available that matches your screen.
Expect to pay $100 for such a "previously-owned" screen,
versus paying $200 to $250 for a "new" screen.
Add $75 for "one-hour-labour" for disassembling your laptop, replacing the screen, reassembling, and testing.

You can perform a restore on it. Refer to manual on how to repair Windows by repairing or restoring. Alternatively, start you computer up and keep tapping F8. When loads of options come up on the screen, you should see "Repair my computer" or something similar. Use arrow keys on keyboard to select and hit enter. That should load you into recovery/repair options

Goto the Toyota dealer with your proof of ownership and the vehicle VIN and the y can cut you a new key.

For the free manual goto your local library...its about your only choice for a free manual. You wont find any FREE ones online....You can purchase one for under $20 at any parts store.

jmeek: unfortunately there's not much you can do about this one. it's either the red gun in the crt has shorted, because of impurity build-up, or the driver for the red gun is shorted. either way it's repair or throw away time. tv repair shops used to carry a picture tube reconditioner that would zap the color guns in the crt to burn-off the shorts. it's doubtful they would have a socket that would fit your crt, but they might. they could possibly find a replacement for the driver if it's defective. but given the low cost of lcd's, that's i would be going. be sure to recycle the monitor correctly. please don't just toss it in a dumpster. there are computer part recycler's thru-out most of the US.

Yes, you may have a faulty MOBO, time to replace it.
it is suppose to sustain power and voltage. other that this, is a fault.
