Hard Drive Activity LED
Connecting pins 1 and 3 to a front panel mounted LED provides visual indication that
data is being read from or written to the hard drive. For the LED to function properly,
an IDE drive should be connected to the onboard IDE interface. The LED will also
show activity for devices connected to the SCSI (hard drive activity LED) connector.
Power/Sleep/Message waiting LED
Connecting pins 2 and 4 to a single or dual-color, front panel mounted LED provides
power on/off, sleep, and message waiting indication.
Reset Switch
Supporting the reset function requires connecting pin 5 and 7 to a momentarycontact
switch that is normally open. When the switch is closed, the board resets and
runs POST.
Power Switch
Supporting the power on/off function requires connecting pins 6 and 8 to a momentary-
contact switch that is normally open. The switch should maintain contact for at
least 50 ms to signal the power supply to switch on or off. The time requirement is
due to internal de-bounce circuitry. After receiving a power on/off signal, at least two
seconds elapses before the power supply recognizes another on/off signal

Good luck

Installed mother to new tower case and pwr sw | hd led | reset | power led connecting to my board is the Intel dq67sw 155 matx motherboard need accurate dir to connect these please help

info found at http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19707/eng/DQ67SW_ProductGuide01_English.pdf
Front Panel Header Pin info for DQ67SW. They should be color coded too. 1 Hard disk LED + orange
2 Power LED+ green
3 Hard disk LED - orange
4 Power LED- green 5 Reset Switch - blue
6 Power switch + red
7 Reset switch + blue 8 Power switch - red
9 Power Out (do not use)
10 No pin
NOTE When connecting individual wires from your chassis front panel to the front panel header, be sure to observe the connection polarity. Positive wires are usually solid color and negative wires are usually white or striped.
There is also an alternative pin header if you have a power wire that uses a 3 pin connector instead of a 2 pin connector. It is the 3 pins just past pin 9, and it should be missing the pin in the middle of the 3 pin block. The pin closest to pin 9 is the power led + and the furthest from pin 9 is the power led -.
if you need clarification, check out page 50 of the manual posted above at intel.com

Instructions on atx case wiring to motherboard

Assuming that the computer is laying down on it's right side, and you are viewing the F panel (the front panel header) from the right side of the motherboard (the bottom of the computer), pin 1 is on the bottom left of the F panel, pin 2 is on the top left, pin 9 is on the lower right, and pin 10 is on the top right (no actual pin)...

1 HD_LED_P Hard disk LED (+) 2 FP PWR/SLP *MSG LED (+)
3 HD_LED_N Hard disk LED (-)
5 RST_SW_N Reset Switch (-)
7 RST_SW_P Reset Switch (+)
9 RSVD Reserved
4 FP PWR/SLP *MSG LED (-)
6 PWR_SW_P Power Switch (+)
8 PWR_SW_N Power Switch (-)
10 Key No pin

Usually the wires and the pins are color coded, (the colored ones being positive.) Sometimes the connections are written in very small abbreviations on the motherboard.

Installed an Upgrated Mother Brd,in my Hp Desktop Tower, but the power Switch receptacle in the New Mother Brd has 16 pns

You need to track the wires from the case front panel to thier locations: one will be your power switch, one your reset, one hard drive activity light, and one your power light. You want to note and label which light or switch they go to then go to the new motherboards manual and plan which wires need to go where.
the front panel switches : reset and power switch- these are momentary switches so it doesnt matter which way they go.
hard drive activity and power light- these should have a colored wire and a black or white. the colored wire will be your + side.
