SOURCE: usb flash disk with write protected

First try to see is there any lock in your drive and see if its not locking it, you will see a switch which locks the device at one side and unlocks it when you slide that swiche to other side ,some drives comes with that option to protect it ..but if it is not

Use the Registry Hack to Disable Writing to USB Drives
Here is the link .just download the zip folder and after opening the folder you will find a file just double click on it..

Why does it take my computer a long time to boot up, loading, and shutting down?

indicates that then hard drive is on the way out
first step is to save everything onto an external hard drive
then take it to a computer repair shop for an inspection
check how much space is on the hard drive because if you have a lot of junk on it , that slows down the start up and shut down p[rocesses
you can go to device manager and do a defrag of the hard drive to free up space

File system lost?

I recommend SpinRite from grc.com. It is the most diligent utility I have used for this. Explore and understand the explanation of what it does on the website.

My external HD will not read on my computer anymore. It spins and lights up as if loading, but does not connect.

Most likely the interface from the external case has failed. Take out the actual hard disk from the case and put it in a desktop - if the disk is still good it will appear in My Computer. If it's not there then the disk is dead, time for a new one.

My computer wont read my iomega external hard drive but read before now its just local disk c ...try to open but will freeze ...have a lot of stuff on hard drive so i cant just format it again...

This is quite a tough one, First does the external hard drive appear when on your computer at all? I would assume disk "c:" that you mention is your main drive or your internal harddrive. If you don't see your external on the computer when you have it plugged in and turned on. Then there is a promblem. 1) Make sure driver is installed, usually when you turn on the external harddrive or plug it in to the computer, the windows sound (found device) usually pops up. 2) Check all connections if all is properly made, and if you have another computer, test it on that computer if you get another different result. If same result is made, and all connection are properly secured. Then you external harddrive enclosure, or the harddrive disk inside it is bad. 3) Listen to your harddrive to see if you hear the drive inside it spins, or if it is making any noise. If spin you could be ok, if it is humming or clicking loudly like it's stuck, then you are kind of done for and could pretty much say goodby to all those files and stuff (with exception) 4) You can take the hard disk inside the external enclosure and hook it up to a computer (if you need help how to, let me know) and see if the computer is able to read it. If not, then definitly your drive is damaged. You can still recover the files, but can't gaurentee a full recovery. In that case, you can take it to bestbuy, office depot, and tell them about the promblem and have them do a data recovery. It is costly, I mean very costly. Anywhere from $250-$750+
Now, if your computer could detect it and give it a drive letter for exmaple D:, but unable to access the files, you can probraly do a error-checking when right click for propertie of the drive.

I was able to use my Hitachi xl 1000 external hard drive on my computer and I wanted to be able to use it for my Macbook Pro as well but as soon as I used it for Time Machine Backup I wasn't able to use it...

If the MAC formats the external hard drive then the desktop cannot see any files on the hard disk even though it detects the external hard drive.
If you format the external hard drive using the Desktop computer and format it in FAT32 then the MAC can read and write to this hard drive and the desktop PC can also read and write to the external hard drive.
MAC computers can read and write on PC formatted disks but not the other way around.

First freeze, then boot slow, then boot "PBR 2 ...done, then disk read error Ctrl Alt Del to contine..., now no screen at boot up....fried???

Hello,

The problem is with the corrupted boot files .In my opinion you have one solution
Steps for solution

1. Download an operating system called ' Linux mint ' which can be installed in the pen drive having minimum 4 gb capacity . Using this operating system you can access the computer .

2. Copy the file and folders to an external storage device (external hard disk, pen drive etc..)

3. Reinstall the operating system ( XP,Vista ,Window 7,Ubuntu etc )

Hope you be successful

My external hard drive icon does not appear on my desktop. I am running mac os 10.5. I used disk utility. The icon appears, but my only option is to erase the disk along with the data on it. How do I...

Try the drive on a windows machine and a Linux machine. It depends on the drive has been formatted. If ex fat or fat then it should be read on a mac ok. If NTFS or Fat 32 then a windows machine should see it.
