Managed to forget the screen lock pin to my htc inspire that i haven't been using for sometime & no longer have active service for.. i thought i was gonna transfer my daughter's pics, some of my apps & my music to the sd card so i could use it in a newer phone & transfer my contacts to a new sim card for the phone I'm using now
Hi. The phone can be used again but must be wiped. Therefore, if your contacts were not synced or saved to your sd card, you will loose them. To wipe:
1. Turn off phone.
2. Press and hold the volume DOWN button
3. Press and hold the POWER button. Release both buttons when a white screen appears.
4. Scroll down to Factory Reset
5. Sit Back, relax and wait for your phone to be new again.
You can now use your phone again.

Try using another SD card to see if that one will read. If so, there is a problem with your SD card.
But if that card is also unable to be read, and your phone is fully updated, there is a problem with the reader on your HTC handset. You can contact HTC for a repair or a replacement. You might even have some luck at the retailer where you originally bought your phone. It's a fairly new model.
