2000 waverunner XL no power to dash console after inserting key/kill switch

The start stays engaged the entire time? I would guess it's a bad ignition switch -- it would be sending power to the starter (through the solenoid) regardless of if you switched it off.

Maybe it could be a bad starter, too. I'd start with the switch.

See page 46 of the attached PDF manual (page 2-19) What you are actually seeing is "EXHST" which indicates the exhaust temp is too high. http://www.yamaha-motor.com/assets/service/manuals/2001/lit-18626-04-01_360.pdf

Call Yamaha and tell them the serial number.

The switch suppose to ground the coil for the spark plugs, try to remove the kill switch and verify the continuity of the switch contacts.

Check that battery! if it is more than three years old, replace it!

hi there it sounds like the switch gear need pulling apart and the copper contacts cleaned as it sounds like the kill switch is closed up and the starter button contacts need cleaning as well also check to see if the stater soliniod might need a cleanup where the wires go,also check your fuses to see if there contacting alright if you ride in all weather or the bike sits outside it can have these problems as mouisture gets into everything. hope this helps cheers pete

hi there could be corrosion on the switch gear and kill switch check and clean as well as the wires going tostarter soliniod,corrosion on these electrical connections are always a problem cheers pete

Have you done a compression test on all cylinders? My guess is you have a dead cylinder (no oil to one or more cylinders causing loss of power). If the compression test passes (all cylinders equal and higher than 100-110 psi) you have a restricted exhaust from a failed catalytic converter that has broken apart.

GM is known for faulty ignition switch on that model.

the battery is drained. The kill switch only turns off the motor, while the lights and anything else that can continue to draw power will continue to do so till you turn the key off.
