My car wont stay running after i start it and drive it around for a little while. the rpms drop and it seems to be backfiring i cant seem to get the car to stay running. it will start after it sits for a while, but after it gets ran it wont stay running. I've had it in and out of the grauge in the last coupple of weeks they have replaced my CAM position sensor and down streem fuel sensor and another sensor that im not tottally sure what it was. They cant seem to find the problem other then they replaced the cam sensor again for n/c thinking it was bad, and it broke down again. Now I have to wait until morning to get it taken back to the grauge to have them try again :( any ideas

SOURCE: have a 1991 buick lesabre 3800 v6, cant get to

Check the ECM if it has the number 1228253 on it, this is what is wrong with it. Gm trashed all of these bad ecms. Get a 16198264 as they do not cause a cutting off problem . Get a delco ecm , aftermarket units will give trouble and may be a rebuilt 1228253 which is junk.

Have an fx45.Should the tach read 25-3000 ROMs when moving at 75mph? Auto tranny seems like it should be in higher gear.

there is not info to be able to give a definite answer
to work it out
you have top know the diff ratio, wheel tyre circumference to be able to work from rpms of the engine to road speed
However as a pointer, most cars will be around 3200 rpms at 60mph as this will be direct drive and od causes a drop in rpms
Being an automatic find yourself a good section of low traffic road and start from stop slowly increase the rpms and watch the rpms. keeping the accelerator steady you will see when the auto changes by a drop in rpms. slowly increase road sped until you see the next drop in rpms and so on. Over drive normally comes in around 55 mph or around 3000rpms
I would think that it is working because 3500rpms at 75mph is reasonable rpms to be expected. If it wasn't working I would expect the rpms to be around 3800 to 4000.at 75mph

I have dropped the front 2 cylinders but the back to are fine. I can start the car and it idles rough. i pulled the no1 spark plug out and it is not wet so i believe it is working. When I go to throttle...

possible issues in the area containing - Camshaft, pushrods, valves, rockers, and the valve springs.

Im having similiar issues with a carburated V8, runs great, but backfires, then now it seems like maybe its trying to air lock, or essentially maybe a valve is not opening any more so it cant freely turn over when I try to start it.. So i would maybe inspect the cylinder head and all those components

Backfiring, will not stay on. 94' cobra

first thing is check fuel pressure. or blow thru the fuel filter to see if its clogged. If the filter is OK you still need to check pressure.
