Easiest thing to do is go to www.crucial.com and run their Scan Program. It works well. It will tell you what kind of RAM you need, how much you now have and the max you can install.

My motherbaord has only two slots for DDR2 RAM.Both slots are filled With 1GB DDR2 Ram Each.I want to increase RAM memory . Without Removing previous Ram from their slots. How to Solve the above problem.

Buy a new computer with more than 2 Gigs of RAM installed. Problem solved.

Otherwise I guess I simply don't understand why you would not want to remove the 2 smaller RAM modules and just replace them with larger capacity ones.

If you do decide to upgrade the memory, then one good and easy way to find out for sure how much RAM your computer can hold is to go to WWW.CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER feature.

This handy utility will scan your hardware configuration and tell you exactly how much RAM you currently have installed and what type it is.

It will also tell you how many RAM slots are fitted on your motherboard and what the maximum memory capacity is for each slot and the total capacity for that motherboard.

If your computer does have room to add more RAM, it will provide you with specific recommendations as to exactly what type and size of RAM stick to get to maximize the memory capacity and performance of your computer.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck.

Outdoorsman_197i have a memory problem with a ga-k8n -pro mother board i put a 1 gig stick of memory in it and it only shows it as a 256 stick and suggestions what could be doing this

Here is the link to your manual which states that the motherboard should recognize up to 4 Gb of DDR ram, 1Gb max in each of the 4 slots:

http://download.gigabyte.ru/manual/motherboard_manual_ga-k8n(pro)(ultra)-sli_e.pdf

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

hello jorge stoke

my name is ausi. i have just joind Fixya.

it is interesting you have had no reply yet.

i had a look at your main board. it is capable of 2gig RAM (maximum). your issue is typically related to the type of
RAM you are using. your posting does not indicate the RAM model.

you have to make sure the
RAM you are using is double sided (has chips on boat sides of it). older mother boards have problem addressing the full capacity of single sided RAM, so it reads only half of it.

good luck.
if this was helpful please vote for me.

RAM Capacity of Motherboard MS 6166

unfortunately there are no sites with info on this board, but similair ones can take upto 512MB of ram, but you would be wise trying a matching 128MB stick in the other slot. You will have to visit a computer fair to get hold of sdram or try ebay.
