MY toshiba laptop satellite n723 does not produce sound.

check wether you sound volume is up.
check in device manager is your sound device is installed and does not have any ! mark on it.
check in your sound option in control panel out put device is correctly selected.

Check your sound/audio manager to make sure its not muted and slider bar is not on zero. You should check your device manager in the control panel, and make sure there isn't a /!\ by it. More than likely you have recently updated to that newer sound driver, and it could very well be the wrong version. Happens all the time. You can rollback the driver so it will replace the new one with the one that worked. Generaly you don't need to update sound drivers unless you get a new sound card, but laptops don't have sound cards to add anyhow. Check those things.

Screws are used to secure the plastic casing and screen and have no function with the audio system.
Try installing the latest audio driver.

In that case it's surely dead, replace it.

download the drivermax program and it will find all the drivers for you as I suspect the usb drivers are missing or corrupt.

To test your microphone click on the record program to test it.
It is located in - Start - Accessories - Entertainment - Sound recorder.
Record your voice and play back to test.
